Double clutching means you must press the clutch down twice. Means the clutch must adhere to the flywheel twice and have the material wear TWICE. Same goes for the throwout bearing and pressure plate. It is less wear on the Syncros than it is on those items. It is recommended and definitely not worth doing Double Clutching. Stop posting mis-information.

I didnt read the entire thread, but damn that's alotta steps.

For me, it's clutch in and quickly shift to lower gear as I blip the throttle. For 2nd gear, I blip high enough for me to be able to get it in gear without locking or grinding.

Not saying I know what the "correct" way is, but my father, who did a fair bit of racing in his day, always taught me the double-clutching method, so +1 for double-clutching FTW. (then again, that was in the 60's and 70's...)

And my father, who did a bit of racing in his day, always said to keep lots of axel grease on the ends of the axels coming out the spoked wheels. +1 on throwing grease on your Z's hubs every morning.

OP, You asked a reasonable question after what your stupid friend said. There is no war here. Just nice people with different opinions and different ways of explainig their sides. Just keep driving like you are. The Z was designed for it. Your brakes will last longer, you won't wear your clutch pedal out, nor develop large muscles only in your left leg.

If you're just driving normally and not slamming the shifter from gate to gate...(I think that's the equivalent to popping your clutch at every shift, thought I'm not sure exactly how the Z syncros is set up). I think you'll be alright...give the syncros some time to do its job!

I saw this video of a forum member blowing out this transmission during some drag race. Then again, he was going FAST....and...he had his hand on the shifter ready to shift, and he'd literally SLAM it from gear to gear like he was swinging a tennis racket. but man! he was going fast! twin turbo too i think

Does double clutching really wear the disk, pressure plate, bearing, or other components?

That would be Alberto. And even if you made trannies out of God's bones, they would still break.

You guys are crazy. Spoolin is just telling us how to shift with as little wear on your transmission as possible. He is by NO MEANS saying that his way is the right way and only way to shift.

I do double clutch on my downshifts. It's really not necessary, but it's a challenge and it's fun. And really there's no harm in doing so.
