why does nissan/infiniti have poor resale value...is it because of their quality?

whereas lexus/acura holds their value much higher??

any comments?

i bought my 2004 in jan. 2005 for $28k, now with 32.6k miles on it, it dropped 9k.....that's 9k in little more than 2yrs.

trying to sell it for $19k and no buyers.

looks like this will be my last nissan.

Its likely because there are quite a few 350z's on the road, which means the supply is greater than the demand.

Yeah, it dropped.. Bit they tend to stay at about 19-20K, reguarless of trim or year.. Its hard to find any Z under 19K it seems at most dealers.

I've had my Z for almost 5 years and bought it new. I don't care much about the resale value just as long as I'm enjoying 5 years of owning this car. It's not the fastest, but it's still a pleasure to own (minus the dealersh!t service).

If you sell any new car in the first two years you are going to take the biggest % hit of the total depreciation of the vehicle. After 4 years it really starts to level out.

Buddy...I dunno what's wrong with your car...but I traded my 2004 Enthusiast 6MT with 48k miles exactly 1 month ago for $17k TRADE IN...and it sold for $20,900 two days later...is yours a 5AT or 6MT? I've noticed that the auto do not sell as well as the manual...but, if you compare the actually year of the car to the time, meaning if you'd purchased an 04 enthusiast in 2004 for say $30k, and now it's 2007, which is 3 years, and now you're selling it at $19k, that's still over 63% in 3 years....even at dealer cost vs trade in when I got rid of mine, say, $17k trade in vs invoice for a 2004 of about $28k/$29k, that's still over 60% in 3 years...that's very good...

after this year with frequent snow/icy conditions, and i had to take a few days off because i couldn't drive it anywhere w/o the risk of getting into an accident....i don't want to get another RWD vehicle and besides i'm beginning to like luxury

sometimes i wish i had a nice plush automatic car to drive, like a jag, or benz, but mostly as a daily driver. im sometimes thinking that when im on long trips ( hour+) or when im tired. between the z and the evo, there both loud, draw attention, and not really a dd, and far from luxury/plush, but they do there jobs, and make me happy.

1. No car is a good investment, the more you spend, the worse the investment.
2. Sports cars are more subject to what is in style. After a couple of years, the curb appeal wears off.
3. The new price of a 350Z vary by how they are configured. My bet is when you buy the top of the line models, you do not fully get back the total added cost.
4. Selling after a couple of years takes the brunt of the most depreciation. Best to own it longer than that or if you get sick of owning a car after a few years, buy one a couple of years old with low miles thusyou will lose much less.
5. If you think you are taking a beating, try modding your 350Z (FI), the sell it.

I feel your pain I bought a new titan and sold it almost a year later and got R@ped when I traded it... With the problems I had with my 350z it's a wonder anyone buys their products...

I don't know why everyone's complaining...the 350Z actually holds pretty good value...Titans is a different story, Titans depreciated once they found out there were so many problems with them, and Nissan pretty much slapped a bandaide onto a broken arm when they put the heatsink into the rear axle...they needed a larger ring gear, but they didn't design it that way...so they're trying to compensate for the overheating of the rear axle by putting a heatsink...it doesn't eliminate the problem, it only makes the truck last a little longer...Titans resale crashed in part of that....

but as far as a 350Z, I think it holds the value very well...now if you got raped when you purchased the vehicle, then that's a different story...but depreciation percentages are based on invoice vs trade in value, not what you paid for it...and they are rated as one of the best vehicles in holding it's value...

one thing, you don't buy something that depreciate, you lease it...you buy things that APPRECIATE (aka a house)...

The clueless idiots at Kelly Blue Book actually think that the transmission doesn't matter in the pricing! They rate my 2005 35th with 2800 miles as $27,850 reguardless of the transmission. What do we know that the professionals at KBB don't know?
