Okay, for the record... You take an average time for the GTO and compare it to the best time posted by a 350Z and use that as a basis for your comparison... Whether you want to call everyone below a liar or not does not refute the fact that there are stock GTO's that have hit 12's in the 1/4.

You are right though, that not many '07 Z's have posted many traps as of yet. But when it is reported that one stock breaks into 12's, then feel free to continue your argument. Until then though, the LS2GTO > the Z in the 1/4.

I'm not going to go ripping into the GTO because it's pretty badass in a straight line but it's ****ing so boring looking.

Agreed. The styling kills it, imo.

What pontiac should have did was let it look just like the holden.

While I generally do not like the exterior stylings of the GTO, this one looks badass to me

That GTO does look good. I love the skirts and body kit. I like just about everything about it EXCEPT, the color, imo

In a nice Yellow or maybe Red it might look a little better.

It just reminds me of the Pantera Orange I could never get used to. Call it Solar Orange or whatever. I hate that color.

I was hoping that they would have released that body instead of the current, but knowing Pontiac, they just had to kill all the hopes of everyone who saw that pic before the production models came out

Default Z and GTO

I have owned 2 pontiacs in my life...both of them, ironically, went back under the lemon law.

That being said, we have had 10 Z cars in the family. Only reason they got sold was to upgrade or just change the flavor....oh yeah, 2 got laid to rest due to boneheads who used the cars as their brakes.

The pontiac is fast, no doubt about it...but this is only when it is running.

The GTO will beat a Z substantially in the 1/4. High 12s all day long. And for those of you who think it doesn't handle, think again. Sure, the Z handles better, but the GTO is no slouch. Also, the Z can't go 180 mph.

It isn't ugly, its just boring looking IMO.

If you like to mod, GTO > Z by a long shot.

I love how people bash the GTO. That is one hell of a car. Drive one, and see what I mean.

Btw, look at the beginning on who actually started this non-sense. It wasn't me. His name starts with a Z.
Oh really? I just posted that a GTO is faster than a Z, and you decided to rip me apart for it. There was no problem until you fought back over it.

Why don't we stop talking numbers and actually use the opinions of those that have actually DRIVEN the cars. I believe there were a few people that said they have DRIVEN these cars but it seems like numbers always get thrown back in.
Like me, but that wasn't good enough I guess.

For the OP, somewhere back a few pages I made a post comparing the GTO and the Z. I didn't compare the SK2 just because the high end HP and TQ are non-existant in lower RPMs, so I figured something more powerful low end to high end is what you would be looking for. I have never drove an SK2, but I can imagine them being a blast to drive, as long as you a near redline most of the time. The Z can be quick anywhere from 4-5k, and even lower RPMs it pulls pretty decent for being a Japanese V6, who rarely focus on low down power -- such as the GTO having crazy torque just at idle.

For the record, if the GTO looked better, I would certainly own one. That is really the only thing stopping me. I am not worried about which handles better, because they aren't *that* far apart, and how often does a street driven GTO or Z really push its limits? In a strait line its easy to push the limits, just floor it. But in terms of handling, I don't think that would be very noticable except on the track, and how many of us run on road courses, etc?

So basically, if you can get past looks, I say

1) GTO
2) Z
3) SK2

If you can't get past looks, then Z before GTO. Also, if you are into modding you car (performance wise), the Z really can't compete with the GTO. There is little you can do to a Z with NA mods. After those, its TT, which is going to be $10k. You get a lot more change out of bolt-ons on an LS2 GTO than a Z.

Anytime someone posts something like this has a right to get corrected when they are dead wrong.

SOLO, you are trying to make the Z look like it aint that far back in a straightline run. It really isnt, but it is not close either. The member that got 13.3 on his 07 Z clearly states he was getting 13.7s until he decided to take a rest, take the spare out, play with the tire psi's, and I think he even mentions racing fuel...hell i think he even mentions taking the tools out. Plus, that would be one of the fastest Z times; so comparing best times vs best times, the GTO has 12.88. Thats .42 faster. 13.7-0.42=13.28. Which is exactly the average time of a 06 GTO. In conclusion, an average 06 GTO does a 13.28, rounded to 13.30, and an average 07 350Z does a 13.70, which is what everyone has being stating so far. What you are trying to prove is that with a better driver etc etc, you can run well against a GTO, nobody has said otherwise, but we are comparing car vs car. Same driver in each, and thats the 1/4 time you get. 13.30 vs 13.70. That is about 2 car lenghts at the end of the 1/4. From a roll on the GTO has more traction and is able to take advantage of full potential fo the engine and is quite faster from a roll. If a GTO has just one bit of driver error, the Z can take it, same at the twisties...if the Z loses traction and drifts a bit, the GTO might get a closer time or a faster time in that lap...point is? driver mod is important. But once again, this is a car vs car comparison. From a roll though...you can granny shift your way to victory after 3rd on the GTO, it pulls that hard, I **** you not.

The extra weight of the GTO is due to its size and the engine, which ironically is what moves the car...so technically, a v8 weights more, but it's also putting more power down, so you gotta realize, that weigh it being somewhat compensated.

Nobody is arguing that the GTO can almost keep up with the Z on the twisties, its jsut a fact that the Z is faster. Now some of you need to understand that the GTO is faster on the straightline. No point on trying to be all sored and saying "just by a tiny bit"..."not by much"...just shut up and say "yes, its faster." the end. 13.5 vs 13.7 is by a bit.13.3 vs 13.7 is faster. 12.5 vs 13.7 is way faster. see where im going? Now look at the track times on the twisties of both cars and the Z should be (way?) faster. Cant have it all...cant win them all. You'll learn that with experience and time.
