Can the stereo play CD-Rs?
THe manual says the stereo may not play CD-Rs. If it really doesn't this is a huge problem -- I'm sure I'm not the only one that burns CDs (music artists, please don't flame -- they can be collections of songs from your legally purchased discs).
(I'm not talking about MP3s on a CD-R, of course -- I don't expect there to be an MP3 player in the car. I'm talking about regular audio CD format burned onto a CD-R.)
I wonder if someone can try popping in a burned CD-R the next time they get a chance to sit in the car? It would be good to know this!

the manual to my lexus says the same thing. No problems so far.
Why don't you go to an Nissan dealership and put a CD-R into the Bose system on the maxima? I'm would imagine that they're the same head unit.

i like it, i use it
I have the bose in my 97 maxima. It works most of the time. I only have problems when its real hot outside and no AC on or in the winter when I have the heat cranked. Let's hope it's improved a little since then.
Thanks for the replieseveryone. I guess they are just covering themselves in case there are problems with some discs. I know my current car plays CD-Rs, but has more trouble with them (skips over bumps).

I know this has been covered to some degree, but I don't recall a answer for the 350Z itself.
Can someone with a 350Z burn a CD-R using mp3's into audio format (.cda) and see if it works? In other words.... rip a cd to mp3, then use NERO or something to burn an audio disc.
If it works, I am one happy camper.

I have also tried several others and they all work great.
Enjoy......

Am i right?
I really wish I could have a 6 disc mp3 player in the car... I really wished the bose system would do that.
Instead, I'm considering one of the hard-disk based mp3 players. Has anyone had any experience with using these in a car (both those made specifically for cars and others)?
Is anyone out there now actually listening to mp3's in their new 350z?

Thats kind of funny b/c I remember taking a survey from NNA while the Z was being designed, and one of the questions was what formats the stock stereo should support (CD, multi-CD changer, MP3's, Satelite radio). I picked MP3's, but guess they didn't get enough interest in that.

I have a MP3 Deck in my Silverado (I love it!)
I would wait a little while because MP3 CD changers are just starting to roll out. I know Alpine hase a 6-Disk MP3 changer that works pretty good. As for the Hard Drive changers...they are faster (take less time to access a track) and more expensive.
Also remember that an FM Modulated interface will yield poor sound quality.

to bad the questionare didn't ask something like:
Would you prefer the bose system to sound like
A) The Q45
B) Sticking your head into a tunnel with hearing nothing but bass
C) Trust us to develop the system and charge 1400+ over the 140 watt system.
D) Don't even let or engineers build one.
D would be my answer

That is good news that it can read cd-rws. Has anyone tried a cd-rw in the non bose system? Also, especially with the cd-rw, what brand of media have you tried (successfully or not).
