I have a friend thats a BIG rotory head I luv what you can do to those motors but seriously, you think that the VQ has some oil consumption issues...Thats ALL the rotory does, is eat oil...And under high boost those apex seals break down ALOT...Now they do make aviation high compression apex seals, but crankin and oil comsumption starts gettin even worse..A modded rotory is NOT a daily driver AT ALL...Trust me respect the rx's but will stick to my VQ...

This article is a complete joke. First of all, they claim to be looking at four different "coupes". The RX-8 is not a coupe.

Second of all, their criteria is pretty much, "which is easiest to drive". Who cares if the RX-8 is easier to drive if you want a car that looks and performs the best?

And those of you asking why no one complained when the 350z was ranked number one in this C&D article are complete idiots. That article was objective, not subjective. This one is subjective. In this article, they ranked the RX-8 number one, because it has a nicer interior and is easier to drive. Everyone who owns a 350z picked the 350z because it has more power and is better looking. So obviously, we all think the 350z is number one. In the other article, they were testing performance, and the 350z was the best performer, so it got number one.

Subjective automotive magazine articles are always stupid.

Second of all, their criteria is pretty much, "which is the best family car". Well duh, anyone could have told you a sedan would be the best family car.

not complete enough let me elaborate.

the other cars that were compared all had back seats and the rx8 is a sedan. notice that there were rankings on
1) rear seat comfort
2) rear seat space
3) trunk space

the highest value that could have been placed on those three criterion were 5pts a piece. Come on now, does anyone REALLY buy a sports car for the BACK SEAT/back seat COMFORT or even TRUNK SPACE!?

pathetic.

but then notice where the 350 excelled, yup in the right department, powertrain.

not only was the powertrain ranked the highest in the test then you have the next most important thing to a sports car buyer, performance.

The 350 had the fastest lap times, fastest avg mph around the track. avg grip in turns was second best by 1/100 (shelby gt 1.02g's 350 1.01g's).

The 350 also had come up with the highest roadhandling grip on the skidpad at .93g's

Additionally it was the fastest accelerator from 0-30 second fastest in the 0-60 with 5.2 (shelby gt with 5.1) and the fastest 0-100 at 12.6 sec AND the fastest 1/4 mile time and MPH with 13.7@104. Oh and the best weight/HP ratio @ 10.9!!

Run that by anyone shopping for a sports car and you'll be able to seperate those destined for a family sedan.

Hrmm Hrmm still want more convincing? Boy you're tough. Ok well swallow this, the 350 was the cheapest of the pack.

Thank you Im done

Nice catch on the other stuff. One other thing, the article claims to find out which one of those is the best "sports" car. Well, since the 350z is the only sports car in the bunch, how could it lose? Simple, Car and Driver editors do not have a freaking clue what a "sports" car is.

The least they could have done is rate a Z trim level equivalent to the other cars. Then they should have adjusted the ratings for the fact that the Z does not have a back seat instead of giving it zero ratings in these areas. As others have stated, the Z excelled on performance and handling, which, to me are the most important areas.
