IMO.
carbon fiber hoods looks discusting. id get it MAYBE if the car was black.

but u c/f hood fanatics are so crazy about weight reduction. but how much quicker do u think ur car will be?

c/f interior accessories are pretty sweet though. bye

most of the cf items people are buying for the z is for looks. it's laid over fiberglass or some other material and not prepreg ("dry carbon").

for that reason, theres not alot of weight savings or extra durability with hoods and most body parts. for example the stock z hood is already aluminum and very lite.

it's about looks. some like it, others dont.

i personally love the look of cf

Basicly the thing that I dont like about it is MAINLY if you have lets say... a carbon fiber hood, & a red Z.. it looks like you didnt have enough $$$ to get a paint job, like the cars that buy bodykits & put them on before painting them. specialy from a distance, maybe not so much close up but if thats what ya'll like then .. cool. Mix & match colors on a car looks unfinished

I'm sorry, but it's one thing when Ferrari does carbon fiber. It's a whole other thing when an aftermarket company with no real experience with/knowledge of the material overlays an existing hood or reshapes a hood to make it in carbon fiber (laying glass is not hard). I worked for a company in RI that specializes in carbon fiber racing masts for racing sailboats. I also raced for many years and used the highest quality carbon $ could buy. Trust me, the real stuff is simply incredible - the stuff that's engineered by professionals and built by professionals ($$$ in R/D).
The c/f you see on these cars is simply pointless (from the standpoint of someone who actually used the material day in/out for a decade before it was even "fashionable"...which it has become on cars)-and althrough looks are subjective, I can't imagine why people are always trying to make their cars be something they are not...
Save your $, buy a house...lol.

Um, I thought this was gonna lead to how they developed something much lighter and stronger than carbon fiber ?

Well, I would much rather drop 300 on something that will actually impact the performance of my car. I like to save my money compared to just spending it for immediate satisfaction. You never lose anything by waiting and saving for that 10-15k to buy your turbo system.

What do you think about dual tone paint jobs? Seems to be a trend that's coming back and I am a fan

I guess I am another person that thinks CF does not look good on cars...or at least on the cars I've seen. Just doing a hood in CF and nothing else just looks silly to me. It's one of those things that you either have to do it right, or not do it at all. If you're going to do the hood, in order for it to look right, you should do the trunk and the roof top. Heck, do the doors and everything else. Cars with just CF hoods say to me "Hey, look at me, I got CF! Am I cool?".

So, here's a question for all you imitation CF fans:

If the stuff you buy is really a cheap imitation that posesses really minimal weigth savings (read: not functional) and it presents no added durability (read: not functional), wouldn't that classify it as textbook rice? If that is not a definition of rice, I don't know what is

Not that there is anything wrong with that sort of thing...

If I were to get CF parts, personally, I'd would only buy real CF if I could afford it and I'd have them painted to match the rest of the body. No need to display disjointed parts of the car in different color which would just make it look like parts I picked at a bone yard from a different color Z. Just my opinion.

why the craze? its an easy great looking way to give your car a two tone look without having to pay extra to get it painted black. if done right i think it looks great, see Alex's "Nitrouz" car. now the random cf hood with nothing to complement it looks fugly. the random cf lip with no other accents to complement it, fugly. full lip kit done right, good great.

yea cause replacing a part with a carbon fiber part is cheaper than painting the part?
