I have a cop friend who says that its an urban legend that policeman pull over cars of a certain color (red, etc.). Do you think that's true? What's your experience with this? My Z is silver and I still feel self conscious when I see a cop, even thought I am obeying the speed limit. Never been pulled over but I'm 70 so maybe that helps.

 

No cop in there right mind would pull you over soley cause your car is Red. They may however pull you over cause that red car stands out in a group of white cars.

Bob thats impresive especially if you drive stick. Im sure with the Z it does not matter what color it is its a magnet either way. I dont think cops look especially for red cars i just think they stand out more and are easily seen and more attention grabbing though. So cops pay more attention to the color.

 

LMS definitely draws attention. I've been followed by cops several times, like they were waiting for me to make a mistake. And was even provked 1 time...a couple months ago. He was in the next lane over and kept speeding up/ slowing down/ pulling in front of me/ going behind me. Couldn't believe it. We were the only cars on the road.

 

heres my Theory. Your looking at cars from a distance you see the Yellow Z, you look just a little bit longer to see what sports car it is to identify it. Yet if it was white you probably woudlnt even notice it.

Im saying you dont see white comeing until its up on you. While the other colors get identifyed faster.

Im also saying you can avoid the ***** factor, the cop who is probably pist off you have a Z and thinks you was driveing a little to fast cuz your Red, while he probably didnt even notice me in white.

this is all my theorys and no proof obviously.

 

I have 3 state troopers for neighbors. They have all made it very clear that they consider ANY 350Z a "cop magnet". (2 of them volunteered to "test drive" it to see if it really is capable of 156. )

My previous ride was a black Miata with silver stripes, but they told me they really don't pay any attention to Miatas.

i dont think this is true.. probably if your weaving in and out of traffic a red car is more noticable than a white or black car...

 

I agree with that. From a distance you notice colors, where it being a Z might not even register if it was "calmer" color.

Cops probably unconsciously do stereotyping/profiling all the time. Besides, it's common knowledge that Red is faster than Silver.

 

70 years old and driving a Z... way cool! It only gets better if you drive a Z with a MT.

Back to your question. I doubt color makes any difference. It's the car. Cops profile the car. I have a 2003 Performance redline Z, and I've never been stopped by the police in this car. My other vehicle (a 1990 Mitsubishi Montero military-style-square vehicle equipped with 15" black wheels and 32" tires, ARB front "kangaroo-killer" black powder-coated bumper, long range driving lights, fog lamps, and a major-big roof rack) is a different story. This vehicle screams "look at me," and I've been stopped numerous times in the Montero (for anything from "bumper too high" to "too much window tint"). But, I never got a ticket on any of these stops. I was stopped because the vehicle was very different and attracted the cop's attention. Incidently, the Montero's body color is beige (a very inconspicuous tan color).

Do a Google search. Several insurance companies have studied the myth that red cars got more tickets than any other color. Statistically, they could not find any evidence to support that theory. I believe there is a UrbanLegends page on it.

I agree, I think the color thing is an urban myth, the car is what matters. Drive any color ferrari and I bet you'll get pulled over.

 

Wouldn't be suprised. Not trying to be the stereotypical jackass who hates cops for no good reason, but the cops I have dealt with so far have all been big useless bags of ****. Maybe its just here, but the cops around here are ****in ridiculous.

I've actually met/heard of some cool cops. Guy I know was riding his 'busa passed a cop going 137 in a 55 and he pulled over. Cop was like 24, walks up to him and says "DUDE! Do you know what I clocked you at? 137, that awsome man!"

Still got a ticket, but for 97 in a 55 instead.
