Default test drove a Z, why does the shifter vibrate this much>??

I would like to give my honest opinions on the car.......I'm planning to get either a g35c 6spd or a 350z and I went to a nissan dealer to check out the Z.

The car as always looks real nice from the outside when I first looked at it....so me and the salesguy hopped in and went for a test drive....the saleguy was driving 1st.

I like how the window opens down a lil bit when you open the door and closes when you shut it..like on BMW's

I first noticed the door panel ... sorry to say that i was dis appointed on the type of material that was used....yes it does feel and look "cheap"

Wow, this car sounds awesome, the salesguy didnt really know how to drive a stick so he had to rev it up to 2-3 just to ease out of 1st gear..but man the car sounds real nice. is the g35c sound the same way?

The AC is great and could blow some air .

the ride wasnt all that bumpy to me, so the ride wasnt a problem.

so he was sitting on the car had it rev up to 3-4k rpm...and just guns it...pulls me to the back on my seat...wow nice pull...so we pull over and he lets me drive...

This car clutch is nice... feels just like a porche I have driven b4..
so I noticed the shifter had a lil vibration but no biggie...

well after a trun i get on it , nice even pull, but for sound weird reason nothing like how it felt when I was the passanger, the car gearing wasnt to short and I only got up to the end of 2nd then i started slowing down...

But man when i shifted from 1st - 2nd , the car shifter was vibrating like crazy......I driven my friend supra and honda b4 with a short shifter and polyurethane bushing and no way it even feels come close to virating as much as the Z did..I was surprised a lil disaapointed by it....is the G35c shifter lthe same way?

Overall I liked the car...nice ext and nice set up for the int. but feels a lil "cheap". I would still get the car if i was looking some something under 30k...base and enthu model is a good value but I feel for 34k-37k isnt worth it. I would look at a g35c if I was gonna pay 34k.

This is my honest opinion on the car and would like to get ur feedback on the things I liked and didnt like about the cafor now I'm set on getting a G35c

Nissan designers tried many different linkages but opted for a linkage that gave a better feel and operation but sacrificed some isolation, so yes the shifter is a little buzzy.

not worth 34-37K??

dude, you show me 1 car on the planet that you can get 287hp, Brembo brakes, front and rear strut tower bars (standard) front and rear stabalizer bars (standard), a 6 speed tranny, 18" light wt (for the track) or 18" wheels, HIDs (standard), for well under 40K??? tell me?? better yet, don't waist your time, you won't find it!!

sounds like you need a G35c, the Z sounds a little to raw and sporty for you, leave the Z for someone who LOVEs it.

the G35 weighs more for a reason, it has more insulation for one, meaning less road noise, and thus less exhaust and engine noise.

Ive never had a problem with the vibration of the shifter, when I compare it to an old 318 I had, or a civic, its like stone compared to a sponge, and I wouldnt have it any other way. only thing they can do to change it is provide a dampener somewhere, which goes both ways.

the g35 6spd has the same 'buzzy' transmission. not buying the car because of a vibrating shifter IMO is kind of a wuss move, no offense.

My Z was 37k btw; not all Z's are 30k...not sure where you got that idea. Don't let the infiniti name fool you; the g35 is NOT a better Z.

i thought the G35coupe doesn't have the rear stability bar!? btw i believe the Z's carbon shaft and the engine is slightly different than the G35 too~ which causes the G to loss a bit more power on the wheel and hence slower~

I said that the Z under 30k are the base and emthu...
I dont think the G35 is a better Z just a different Z, more luxury and space.. maybe its a lil slower than the Z, but what .2 sec slower on the 1/4? I saw some1 run a 14.2@99 in a G35c I think that aint to bad for me.

The shifter didnt bother me as much as the interior did.. I could live with the shifter its just the Interior, just cause its a sports car doesnt mean that it cant have a higher quality inteior.

funny, that's the same reason I didn'yt buy the g35..I realy disliked the cheap looking fake metal interior. The Z uses real aluminum inside, the G does not.

Seems like your more an interior type person. I say go with the G35 or an Audi because the Z is very minimal in this category. But it does serve its purpose for what it is meant for, a sports car not a luxo-gt. More function than accessory. IMHO

As far as interior wear, Ive had the Z since the beginning of October and have seen no signs of wear.

I looked at the G35c and the Z. I ended up with the Z because the G35c is hard to find in WA, and there are two Infiniti dealers in the entire state...280 miles apart.

Never noticed excessive vibration in my shifter.

yeah...the z shifter vibrates.

Its actually one of my fav. things about the car.

In fact when the engine is spinning down there's this low frq rumble that the trans feeds back to you.

It's a very visceral feeling.

My prelude had a shifter that *never* buzzed and I never miss it.

BTW, the g35 DOES have the strut tower brace in the rear- its just that its in the TRUNK.

Regarding the interior diff - the G may have a slightly more luxurious appearing interior, but hey - its lifted from the sedan!

the Z certainly is more spartan, but I personally love the aluminum handles, the "sharkskin" door covering and the simple, functionality of the 3 round dials for the A/C (matching the 3 pods at the top) over the Gs multiplicity of buttons and stwitches For the exact same functions.

To each thier own, if you consider the G a sports car, thats your car!

my shifter has what I would term "tactile feedback". It doesn't make an audible buzz, but I can definitely feel the gears working. This is a good thing with a sports car. Drive any Porsche and see what I mean. There are any number of self-proclaimed "sports cars" who are really GT Luxo cruisers with all tactile sensation dialed out. To me, those are boring. I wanted a sports car.

jaxxx-You must be an expert on cars by your technical analysis. If I was you I would stay away from the Z.Too heavy, not enough hp,antenna is ugly, tire feathering, window streaks, crappy interior, lousy looking, slow,no accolades to date and on and on.BTW when you can answer rodH's question please let me know the answer.

I really don't think anyone can answer it, I remind myself all the time how little (relatively speaking) the Z is

I think the shifter rattle gets better as time goes by. My hand used to get numb if I let it rest on the shifter too long.

Either that or I've just gotten used to it.

Well then take mom and dad's money over to the Infiniti dealership. Like Ares said, not getting a Z because of to much shifter feedback is BS. You just wanted to come here and tell us you decided to get a G35c and you are trying to justify to yourself why. I could have gotten a loaded G35c for less than my car, a loaded Z, and I don't look back for one second.

You said it yourself in the original post, your buddies car had polyurethane bushings. Toss some in the Z and I'm sure it will get all smooth and friendly. I'll take rough and hard positive shifts over smooth and cushy.
