I've gotten 33 +/1 mpg on the interstate cruising around 70. City driving is usually around 19-20ish.

Thanks for all the replies guys Well, I dropped her off today at dealer to get ck'ed out. The guy called back and said I had a dirty air filter and that might be the source of awful mileage.....they'll check into it some more and give me a call back. Where do they find these front desk service guys.....he tried to tell me initially that 162 mi using ~2/3 tank was perfectly normal!

No, you got 360 miles before you decided to fill up.

Its a 20 gallon tank. If you get 22 MPG, you would get 440 "miles to the tank".

yea, i think is your commute, b/c before i used to have a 3 mile commute that took like 10 minuts max, and yea i got below 20 also, i think it might have to do with the fact that engine isnt able to warm up or something like that, because when i went back to long commutes that were even mostly city i got at least 20+, and yea, one time i got 44 mpg !!!!!!!! yea, i drove 50 mph the whole way on cruise in 6th, so it was pretty cool

Has anyone ever noted the optimum speed for the best gas mileage in a Z? If one were to drive a a constant speed, it seems reasonable to think that one would get a better mpg figure at 65 mph than 85. However, in informal tests, my 6MT seems to get a better mpg figure if driving at a constant 70 mph than it does at 50 mph. In the olden days of Jimmy Carter, the feds set the maximum speed limit at 55 mph because it was presumed to offer the best mpg. However, my Z doesn't seem to excel when driven in the 55 mph range.

I get consistently the best mileage when I'm able to hold it steady at somewhere between 60 and 65. This doesn't happen very much though, too much stop and go, or at least stop and slow way down, on the Beltway. Between DC and the OBX there are stretches when I can keep it slightly north of 60, and the mpg figure steadily creeps up as I check it during that part of the trip.

I get around 18/19 mpg in city driving in my 2003 DB Track. When I drove frm MD to CA in 2003, I averaged 28.5 mpg at a steady 80 mph (using the cruise control). Otherwise, on highway driving not using cruise control and at lower speeds, I get about the same.
It could be that, once the car is broken in, that you will get better gas mileage.

Did you buy yours new? If so, unless you've been through a dust storm, it's extremely unlikely an air filter could get so dirty within a few weeks to cause really bad mileage. Dragging brakes, low tire pressure and bad alignment can hurt mileage.

Again, I wouldn't expect very high mileage from the description of your commute. You'd be lucky to get 20 mpg.

I bought it used with 28K...I figure it's feasible for a stock filter to be nearly black with dust if its never been changed? Replaced it with K&N this morning, good psi all around and having my alignment done this weekend. HOPEFULLY this will net me atleast 17 or 18 mpg like most others!

Off topic a bit, but since you bring up dragging brakes....I've been having trouble getting used to braking with her...seems like regardless of how slow or fast I come to a stop, there is still a "brake catch" noise. Don't how to describe it....not really a grinding...just the noise you hear sometimes when you let off the brakes. Is this familiar at all to anyone?

Default Mileage

I've played with getting the best mileage (based on the on-board computer) and today was the best yet. I was lock onto 58MPH via cruise control coming down MD Rt 29 this morning at approximately 8:30. I hit the reset button and after it did it's thing it reported 42.3MPH. I know that's a short term best case basis but all the same it makes you feel pretty damm nice.

It's normal if you're doing nothing but city. The more city you do, the worse your mileage will be - I tend to get about 16MPG with nothing but city, and 22MPG on the highway. Our highways don't allow us to have the same results as other Z owners - we have too many inclines and hills which really prevents us from increasing our MPG. Once you enter Long Island and the LIE flattens out, that's when you'll notice your MPG begin to climb.

i average about 18-19 with mixed driving. The most I've gotten is 22 highway. Sticker says 20/27 but no way with realistic driving.
