If you know what you are doing by all means do it yourself. It is a bit of a rip off.

I took my Z to a highly reputable independent mechanic for the 30k service. Including a front brake job (which I already knew was going to be needed before I brought it in), the final damage was only about $230. Much cheaper than what the dealership would've tagged me for.

Good one June... I'm guessing that a lot of readers missed the subtle reference though.

It was only a test.

I tried to prove to myself that all you guys ever think of is cars...cars...cars.

For a minute there I began to worry, but I was wrong...

...It is good to know that there is at least one guy in the crowd that can differentiate cars from boats.

kisses,

June

I do not have the time or trust any other mechanic to touch my Z other than the dealership. There is not many Z specialist in Sacramento. So my choice is limited.

I think what it really comes down to is that most or general public people can't really be sure if they are getting the right service that the dealerships recommends or actual work done and completed from the dealership.

So I would like to tell everyone that if they know a good mechanic in their neighborhood, then they should become friends with them and learn how to trust them.

Out of the list this is all you need:

Engine oil and filter change
- Inspect fluid levels, inspect tire wear and set tire pressure
- Check operation of all lights and controls
- Tire rotation
- Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches
- Inspect, clean and adjust front and rear brakes
- Inspect suspension components, tie rod ends, steering gear box and drive shaft boots
- Replace air filter
- Check and adjust parking brake
- Inspect brake hoses and lines, exhaust system, fuel lines and the underbody
- Inspect cooling system hoses/connections & coolant condition
- Drain and replace cooling system fluids
- Inspect and adjust drive belts
- Change transmission fluid(synth fluid extra)
- Perform multipoint inspection and battery test
- Road test vehicle
- Battery service
- Platinum plugs extra
- Synthetic & specialty fluids extra
- Some models extra.

All the tire, brakes, fluid, and battery inspections you can get done at a non dealer shop like NTB or some local chain that will do the inspections for free.
