Same here, but w/ 55,000miles. Only changed out the clutch at 28,000. Other than that, no problems what so ever.

- Rear axle click at 45,000
- Window motor needed reset at 42,000
- Window grease on occasion. Seems to be random
- Only changed tires once. Rears at 51,000 and fronts at 58,000.
- Interior pieces such as radio controls and turn signal/wiper stems started to fade and discolor at around 55,000
- Only changed clutch once, was done with transmission at 39,000 but didn't even need it then.
-Oil changed every 3,000 or less with no signs of loss.
-Gas gauge is totally inaccurate, I've never put more than $50 in even when it's flashing "---" at me on the dte.
- Hatch hinges fail under cold temperatures
- Electric gas door has lost it's oomph to open at about 55,000. I now have to get a fingernail under it to open it.
- A/C is starting lose it's cool at about 55,000

Other than that, it's running pretty damn strong, and is ready to go F/I.
iceagetlc,

Can you describe the rear axle clicking sympton?

When my car rolls at low speed, I can hear "click" sound. Its been doing that the last four months . Too afraid to bring to the dealership.

Yup that's the axle click. Does it when you're taking off from standstill or at low speeds.
Take it to the dealer. There's TSB for it and they'll fix it for free.

I have 55k on mine, just turned it last week. I bought it with 32.5k but I have the history of the car, I will recap:

- Replaced transmission at 39,000. Grind into third - CHECK was replaced before 30k though
- Window motor needed reset at 42,000 - CHECK, but more like 32k
- Window grease on occasion. Seems to be random CHECK
- Only changed tires once. Rears at 51,000 and fronts at 58,000. CHECK - new rears this spring, but the tires are not the first set
-Oil changed every 3,000 or less with no signs of loss. CHECK
- Electric gas door has lost it's oomph to open at about 55,000. I now have to get a fingernail under it to open it. - CHECK, just started doing this.
- Radio replaced. No buttons except ON/OFF worked. Replace around 32k

Good thread. It's nice to hear how well our (well, most of our) Z's are aging.

I've only got 42k on my '03's clock and the only problems I've experienced were:
-Transmission replaced at ~25k miles (5th-6th grind)
-Fuel filler (warranty)
-Weak hatch shocks

No tire feathering, no window problems, no abnormal rattles/squeaks.

My list of problems I have had with my 2003.
Bought new; delivered July 03, 2003. Mileage 16,666 as of July 23, 2007.
  • Front tire feathering.
  • Passenger side widow motor failed and replaced AFTER warranty expired.
  • Fuel hose replaced (recall)
  • Rear tires almost no tread –estimate will need to be replaced at 18,000 miles.

Otherwise, she’s still tight as a virgin.

ive probably experienced half to three quarters of the problems on that list. those are the more common ones.
You're right. This is a common problem. You fix this by replacing this part.

The Nissan part number is Spring Lift 84415-CD715.

It should be adjustable fairly easily.
The problem he describes has nothing to do with a "latch issue." The problem is a deficient Spring-Lift. This is a known problem.

Also, yea the latch sucks.
You are correct about the hatch weight. At about 35 degrees F, the hatch won't stay up, and the hatch drops.

Will the dealership give me a problem if I have lowered springs?

Maybe bring to west covina nissan since they are a mile from me.

No, my dealership admitted it was a known problem.

You got 50,000 + miles out of a set of tires???!!! WTF! I've just about worn out the 3rd set of rears at 54,000. Replaced the hatch struts with Pure Innovation stainless, group buy on another site) the gas hatch is balky but opens after a couple of pushes of the button, driver window motor replaced under warranty, passenger side "reprogrammed) at my cost, window streaks went away until I had the aforementioned motor issues and the streaks came back (probably because they grease the sh*t out of the tracks as they know the motors are crap?). Not all that bad for 4 years of DD. And it's paid for!

I don't really push the car too hard. And most miles are highway. Drove to florida, highway to work. I avoid road debris, never burnout or drift, etc...

The TSB for the rear axle clicking can indicate the rear axle bearings and/or hub surface have been damaged. As far as I know, this TSB only applies to the 3 year/36K warranty. Since many of us are over that mark, Nissan dealerships may not fix it for free. Did your dealership fix your "axle clicking" at 45K? Do you know what they wrote on the service order to repair it?

They fixed it at 45k, and called it some sort of bearing lubrication, as I recall. Basically they said they took something off, lubed it, put it back on. It was about exactly a year ago, so I'm a little iffy on details.
