Default Oil consumption. "not what you think"

More like plain old Oil loss!!!

My local Nissan dealership is fixing FOR THE SECOND TIME.... my oily looking engine bay.. it got that way after a service when the Tech (albiet it was no doubt not a real tech) forgot to put the oil cap on.. (last time they never tightend the oil filter, leaked all over the oil pan.. Lucky i check under the hood as oftern as i do.. Oh and to top it off i have axle clicking!! Great.. I keep going to the same dealership (even though ive moved) coz its hard to find good serivce advisors... ( i work for a dealership so this i know well) They have "comp'd" me a bunch of services and steam cleaned my engine bay detailed etc.. but come on, they got real lucky this time as it really did spit alot of oil out.. (i dont want a new engine)

Has this happend to anyone else? do dealerships over look things like this coz its such an easy task.. I know some places use unqulified kids to do there oil changes.. (i know my work does not-BMW) just pi$$'$ me off that they would be so careless.... sorry, morning bit*h is over....

I only goto dealerships to get parts and would never go there to get a service/oil changes. If you work for a dealership why dont you just go use their service center and do your own oil changes? If you dont know how to or just lazy to do at your house then well i guess you have no choice and let some little dealership kid do it.

COz it's more then a hundred dollers just for labour (remember im at BMW) even if i used the hookup and got one of the guys to do it over the weekend itd still be $50 bucks vs $25 for a dealership to do it ( Ive done engine pulls.. changing oil myself isnt the problem.. it cost nearly the same for some one else to do it for me?? cost affective is more like it, not lazy imo... they dont let the sale team use the lifts anymore.. long story,... lol....

A few months back I saw a thread where a newer owner had the same thing happen. The dealership service people left off the cap or left out the dip stick, I don't remember, and He didn't discover it until his oil went low. It was a super mess.

I always check my oil in the AM before going to the dealer and also before driving away after service. Seeing me do it keeps them on their toes.

Sucks they wont let you use the lifts. Basically what i'm saying is if you do it yourself then you'll know everything was done right. It takes like 30 mins max to change your oil, so i think its worth it cost effective or not.

no doubt.. they used too.. but it kinda got abused.. there were some a-class lossers that did some things after hours and kinda screw'd it up for everyone..

i wouldnt get my oil changed at a dealership unless i knew the people working on the car personally. there are typically new guys working the oil bays...and sometimes an oil change is too much for them.

This is one of those things where if you have to ask....

Anyway, the dipstick is your friend. If you read it correctly, it will tell you what you need to know; as will draining the engine and measuring the quantity of oil.
