Newb, few easy questions..
Hey guys, no I don't have a 350z, but I'm dying to own one someday when I get some money. I'm 17, starting auto mechanics program at the community college in like 2 weeks. I currently have an 88 mustang GT 5.0 and a lifted chevy s10. Anyways, I was just trying to get a lil info on the z to dream about while I try to get the money eventualy. First off.. If you don't mind, what are you guys paying out the door for say a grand touring model coupe? I built one on the nissan webiste, and it said liek 36,500 msrp. I was just curious as to what it would actually end up out the door at a dealer. 2nd, what is the stock rear gear ratio? I see that 3.917?s are availabe, do they make a noticeable difference over stock? What would be rpms at say 70mph,80mph?
Sorry if these have been gone over, I read some of the stickies and didn't really see this info.
And the final big question.. How old do you have to be to test drive a 350z at the dealer
Dan

Iowa, huh? I am out here right now working for Deere in Waterloo
1. There is a buying/leasing section you could look in. Its hard to say what you can get but as general rule 100 under msrp is a "good deal". You anr't going to be able to haggle the dealer on a car like this. But do your research and don't end up getting screwed. The Z GT is a very difficult car to get new BTW.
2. Not exactly sure on that one.
3. They see a young kid comming and they prob won't let u take it out. They try not to let them be test driven due to the fact that when ppl buy new Z's they tend to not want any miles on the car, so only serious buyers only. U might be able to find a cool sales guy, but no bets. Try and go with a parent to fool them
Hope this helps somewhat

It'll be really hard to talk the price down on a Grand Touring. I just bought a Touring Coupe and we bent over backwards to get them down to 34,000. The fact is that they will sell the car to somebody for the price they want. Dealers only make 7% profit off of the cars anyways. I do love my car though...
No info from me on mods, I just got the car so im right beside you on that.

in okc i got a touring out the door for 32000. the stock gears are 3.5's on manuals 3.9's make a 10% difference in acceleration in every gear. I would guess at 70 the rpms would be around 28 to 3k just a guess as i dont have them.

You might be able to hedge your bets at Carmax if you have one close by. Give the sales person a story like your current car is totaled and you need to be in a new one within the week. I might help if you mention the previous car was something fast so they think you can handle it. Carmax does not make you fill out any forms or sign anything. Just a quick copy of your DL and your out on the lot picking what to drive.
I test drove a boxster and then a Z. The Z won my heart. Carmax no haggle policy did not. I would recommend them again because they have a wide variety of cars to test out and, for me, very low pressure. Not sure I would buy a car from them though.

I've shopped for a used Z for months and found that Carmax was at least 2K more expensive than anywhere else. As far as test drives... Just find a used car dealer. They never thought twice about me driving one when they new that was the only thing I was intested in. However I'm 23. Oh and I also don't own a Z.
