Default gauge reading 10mpg??!!!???

guys im about to pull the trigger on an 05 enthusiast with 28000miles ($19500)... Ive noticed something... Driving around town(test drive) not really mashing on it the gauge is reading 10.9mpg... this cant be right...

Is there a problem with the gauge? Engine? Fuel delivery? etc.

Any ideas?? What do i do?

The carfax report is clean

how long did you drive it for?

if the trip gauge is reset and you only drive it for a few miles it may read really low.

the Z is capable of 6 mpg on a track so don't be surprised. I guess the previous driver was driving like a mad man.

Either driving like a mad man or parked and idling for long periods.
mpg = [miles driven/gallons of gas used]since the last time the mpg calculator was pushed. I can't believe so many people still don't understand how this thing works.

Justremember the Z's mpg meter isn't real time...it's actually speed-related.
Reset it and see what you get.

Yeah the dealerships tear up the used cars that are trying to sell. Before i bought one, one of the sales reps asked if i had seen what it could really do which i hadn't and ended up doing some donuts and a 100+ run down a back road.

And im convinced someone ****ed up mine because the rear crumple zone mysteriousy bent after a slight drift a day after getting it.
