The Z clutch is nice, just right for the car. Granted, I have never had the opportunity to drive a Porsche or a BMW MT, which I hear are superb units. And the shifter: its so tight, it snaps into gear without question, the short throw is like a bolt action rifle. Love it!!!
To be honest, I don't mind driving MT in traffic; I hate driving ANY car in traffic, so the transmission doesn't matter, but the MT is rewarding once the nut-to-butt traffic clears up and you get to open her up!

To me, the Z's clutch is intuitive and balanced. Overall it's a very easy to drive MT in my opinion.
...than again, I did learn how to drive a stick on one of these bad boys. You had to do a damn drop-kick to push the clutch in.

i think the clutch is the weakest part of the whole Z experience...i can't wait to upgrade that. the engagement point is just all wrong and it tends to slip some when doing redline shifts expecially after it heats up

Look I have had manuel Z's all my life 280zxt,300zxt,for the exception of my 91 300zxtt that one was auto and truthfully I drove it for 3 years and it sucked.Now I bought my 07 6mt and to be honest its great. All true sports cars are stick. If you buy an auto it's because you have no choice in the matter. Oh by the way.I live in broward county fl and travel to miami where there is a large amount of traffic and I dont have a problem with stiffness or stalling. Those are just the excuses for getting the auto in the first place!!
People that look at MTs as Exotic Options and make a very simple component into rocket science have problems and sometimes never overcome them. Complicating things by "double clutching", speed shifting, What RPMs should I shift at ? Shift matching ??? turns a simple gearbox into a phobia and chances are will remain so.
The only advantage I ever saw in an Auto was if it was modded and used at the strip---Power-Glides,C-4s,C-6s,Turbo 350s-400s,700R4s.
Chaps my *** a little on 100+ degree days in stop and go cuz I know my poor clutch is taking a beating, but Autos have clutches too and run super hot.
Point is---Learn to control your car, dont let it control you.... Then a MT becomes no more an exotic than getting used to Climate Control HVAC or you're wipper control ( That still messes me up..Front ? Rear ? Intermitent ? Inner **** , outer **** ??? )

BTW----I would NEVER teach someone to drive using an Automatic---Just common sense

Daily commuting on the Dan Ryan expressway during rush hour with the Nismo clutch. I probably push the clutch over 200 times during each trip. Gotta love stop and go highways because of massive construction. I hate everything about automatics, however. May the manual transmission never die!

Your wife rules!My wife is 24 and complained about the clutch during her first (and only) MT lesson which lasted all of 5 minutes. But the very concept of a clutch is too alien to her (no one in her family has ever owned an MT) so there is zero frame of reference.
She is very eager to learn though and I feel I MUST teach her anyway since we go hiking a lot in the mountains and usually take the Z (twisties FTW!) so if I ever roll down a cliff (have had a couple close calls!) and break an arm or leg, she's gotta be able to drive me to a hospital!
