Has anyone purposely left there Z stock?
My 07 is bone stock, because I just got it, I can already tell my wallet is going to be hurting for a while! Modding a vehicle is an art + it never stops there are ALWAYS more stuff to do.

I just got addicted to going fast and couldn't leave mine stock. One thing to mention for people who are just buying their Z, If you think you just want a little more power and you'll be happy, YOU'RE WRONG, trust me. I thought each bolt on would put me to that level that i was looking for. Save your money on the bolt ons and go FI

stock exhaust? even a Neon comes with stainless
stock radio or Bose and those paper speakers? please, almost anything is better.
small plenum? why didn't Nissan spend a little more time to find the 10-15hp the aftermarket did with no down side?
brake pads made of charcoal? better fade resistance and less dust in EBC Redstuff and Hawk HPS
Rubber brake lines? Stainless will give a better feel and last the life of the car
25+ lbs wheels? I thought this was a sports car
RE040 tires? really, I am sure they were chosen for their high MPG, it was certainly not for grip, wet traction, low noise or ride.
There are lots of trick stock parts, for instance the carbon fiber drive shaft, forged suspension and aluminum rear subframe but there is still room for improvement all over the car.
The bottom line is stock is built to a price, regulations and to meet the needs of the average buyer.

What need is there for a car with such an appealing and evocative shape?
What need is there for a car with more than 30 horsepower? If it's not a track car, then it only needs enough power to move you from point A to point B, right?
What need is there to imply that other people are insecure rather than tackling your own insecurities?
Why do some people buy more ram, overclock their processors and install better video cards? Too keep up with the newer machines coming out?
Some people workout to improve their bodies and health, some improve their homes, some improve their cars, or their guitar playing abilities, etc. etc. It's called a hobby. It brings them enjoyment. And that my friend is the answer to your question. "What need is there for more HP on the Z?" It brings the owner enjoyment knowing he/she has improved upon the original design.

you are seriously coming off as a total loser...
Actually, mcurry5, let me dig into your posts a little more..
First, you said that bolt-on mods are "kiddie toy mods" and that you were "too old for them". People who buy sports cars buy them with the intent of either being a spirited driver or adding style to their transportation. Engine mods compliment those who bought their Z for it's torque and hp. Body mods compliment those who bought the Z for it's physical appeal. And most people mod according to what they can afford. Sure, most Z owners would like a twin turbo set up but most of us can't afford it. So, if someone can only afford $100 mods with minimal gains, how is that showing insecurity? Do you honestly think that they are parking at the mall, opening their hood, and asking people if they want to take a look at their popcharger?
If you really think that adding horsepower is showing insecurity, than you must be pretty insecure. With 2 kids, you should have purchased a safer car with a back seat. Obviously you picked the Z over a Camry. Why did you pick the impractical sports car? A popcharger hidden under a hood doesn't really scream out "look at how fast I am!" However, a Z driving next to a 4 banger sedan does demand attention for it's superior performance. According to your logic, the very fact that you own a Z when you should have gone with the safe Camry shows that you need a sports car to feel somewhat special.
Not only that, but I think that you feel threatened when someone adds a $100 mod to their Z so you feel the need to look down on them. Either you can't afford $100, or your Z (which is faster than the Camry that you should have bought) is no longer considered fast compared to other 350Z's.
Does my CAI hurt your feelings, little camper?
And how is it that you don't understand the analogy of a blank canvas? Many of the mods add minimal horsepower. People don't spend $1,000 on their exhaust because of it's 2 horsepower gains. Some people add mods to give their Z a personal touch. Regardless if it's a popcharger or a supercharger, all these mods are about personalizing the Z either visually or performance-wise. Sure, this "blank canvas" might not be a plain piece of paper, but to those who are into modding cars, it always starts off as a blank canvas.
Says the guy who should have bought the Camry...

Ya mine was stock fior the first week. Got a Nismo CAI and today got an injen exhaust in the mail and about to get a carbon fiber hood.. Everyone tells me its not worth all the money spent but its more of a hobby than just modifying my car

Mine is stock except for the custom tire valve caps and license plate holder. At my age very few people who drive a 350Z would be considered boring, even if it is stock.
There's a lot of nice looking modded Zs out there. If other people want more performance or different looks that's great. I bought mine because I've always wanted a Z and I like the Z for what it is and I'm happy with it the way it is.
For me, I go by the "If it's not broke, don't fix it" approach.
