I think you know better than to even ask a question such as this. As per your owner's manual: No additives. I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but it's just common sense.

Mythbusters busted this and several other additives in one of their shows.

Even if the acetone had any kind of chance at helping the economy of your car, the alcohol content in the gas will just about neutralize it. I am fairly certain ethanol will react with aceton and neutralize it. Since just about entire US gets ethanol to some degree, you won't have much luck doing it. You want to add something worth money? Try Toulene from your local hardware store. It will safely raise your octane significantly but then you may already be at full timing advance already in which case it's a waste.

Acetone is a serious hp booster, it raises the octane significantly. It is fun to add it to your gas tank since it will add some kickass power. It won't raise the mpg but will definitely add a smile to your ugly mug. Give it a try, it is fun shi'ite.

I'd be carefull adding acetone to your gas in the Z that was a trick we used in drag bikes. It tend's to melt the wrong kind of plastics and rubbers. Also we would add about a quart in 4 gallons of gasoline. Hmmmm cheap injector cleaner or melted injectors.

07 ZR silver alloy/black 6spd.

it works, pretty common knowledge, add a quart to a tank of gas and you won't have any problems, just fun. Don't worry these guys don't know what they are talking about. It is actually a pretty common additive used by producers to make higher octanes.

That is true for octane but it will most likely not add any kick *** power to a Z, especially if you're on 93 oct. You're in Cali so you MAY get some benefit out of it. I get good quality 93 oct with 10% ethanol in MA and adding Acetone is a waste of money. The alcohol will bond with acetone thus making it useless and effectrively lowering my octane because of some alcohol being used for acetone reaction. All sites that advocate usage of acetone even tell you not to add it if you have methanol or ethanol in your gas.
Furthermore, adding extra octane to gas on a car that is not set up to advance timing to take advantage of it is a waste of time and money. The factory Z is made for 91oct from factory. It is probably set up to take advantage of 93 with adaptive timing based on knock sensor feedback loop. I have no doubts that 93 will max out the timing on the Z. Adding more octane to that gas will not do anything and may actually slow you down.
Just wanted to be clear about this.

Octane rating only refers to a fuel's anti-knock characteristic. It has nothing to do with the fuel's energy content.. Increasing octane does NOT increase power.

1 quart of acetone in a 20 gallon tank of gas would increase the octane rating of 91 octane to about 91.4.

Unless your running forced induction and 15 psi or more boost, don't waste your time or money adding acetone to your fuel. And if you really need more octane, there are better aditives than acetone.

And it will NOT improve fuel economy.

Hella,

Do you have posted dyno sheets for your numbers? That would equate to 285-295 dyno jet......which seems a lot high for a tuned 03 with bolt-ons??

I haven’t tried it. Buy a gallon of acetone at the hardware store. Add it to your tank. Lets us know how it works out.
