Question different MPG's ?

I'm not a loon. I drive virtually the same way to work, friends houses and general hang-outs every week, but there seems to be a difference in my MPG's based on where i fill up! owned the Z 1 year now,and every time i fill up at BP (rarely-they only get their oil from the middle east and should be avoided at all cost) Or SHELL,Sunoco...whatever the major company's , It is always, and i mean ALWAYS 20 - 40 miles less per tank than when i fill up at a Get-Go (a north east subdivision of Giant Eagle Grocery Stores) can this be? how much different is one gas from another? i really don't know. but after about a year the evidence is there. or maybe not. i mean when i fill up at a get-go my DTE usually says 498 or so,but others it says 408 or 415. so it is obviously something, just not sure what.

anybody......?

North Easterns please weigh in

Personally, I think it's your imagination but here something to try. Next time you fill up at one station, reset the computer so the MPG reading starts clean. After you burn off that tank, record your MPG and fill up at the other station and reset the MPG meter again. Record the MPG after you burn up that tank and compare.

If you're getting about the same MPG, then the problem is that the tank is not filling to the top at one station. If the tank is only 95% full, then the DTE will be less than if 100% full.

BP is solely dependant on the middle east for their oil, whereas others get their oil from around the world. so BP being the biggest, puts all their (read OUR) money into the middle east. we do not want this. if you haven't noticed...... kinda hairy over there,so why feed the fire?

BP/Ammoco fuels are the cleanest around. I too have noticed this. When I fill up at the Mobil by my house, I get returned with about 330 miles to the tank. When I fill up at the BP by my girlfriend's house, without fail, I always get considerably more - ~360 to the average tank, same driving patterns. It's the same in the FX, and it was the same in my Maxima. I've done this back and forth.

you get over 400mi in one tank, which gas station do you get your gas? I get a liiiiiiittle over 300 with my z now. Some gas station owners/gas company probably **** with the gas mixture and make the octane level lower than what it should be, so 92 is like 90 or something, I'm just guessing... I did notice that I get different mileages when I go to different gas stations, 2.

Ive only used Citgo for the last few years and I still get different mpg every time. I take the same trips every week. You'd be surprised how much you can change your mpg w/o realizing it. Like mood and of course getting more redlights. I usually get 21-22 mpg and fill up after 370-400 miles.

Sorry, but my brother is an engineer for BP on the Alaskan North Slope, so I would not agree with the above statement. Alaskan North Slope oil, along with fields in the North Sea are essentially the only MAJOR oil reserves outside of the middle east which are still producing significant quantities of oil, so if you are going to drive a car, use air conditioning, buy petroleum products, use plastics, or otherwise exist in today's world, you are going to burn oil which comes from the Middle East.

well, i realize ALL gas companies get their oil from the midlle east, but from what i've read BP ONLY gets it from there.

umm and as i said, the place i get the best mileage is from a new GET-GO stations in the N. East, which is owned by Giant Eagle Grocery stores. they also give discounts. for ever $50 spent it's 10 cents off a gallon (on your next fill up,not every time!) so after shopping,i usually have 30 cents off a gallon, which is great AND it seems to net me 30 - 50 miles more per tank!

but it was interesting to read that people who drive the exact same amount every week, still get different tank amounts...makes me realize it may not be the fule,mainly...just stop times, aggressiveness etc. i am going to try an only buy gas grom get-go for the next few months and see if i ever dip back down to 400 - 430 a tank.

this really sucks for me then. on highway i would get about 26-29 mpg which is cool but my driving is predominantly city where i avg 10-12 mpg. So my meter usually reads those numbers. I would get bout 230-270 miles each time after i fill up (bout 85% city, 15% highway). Im gonna try to switch my oil, oil filter and air filter. hopefully this helps my mpg
