If the engine goes BOOM, you should have shifted somewhere before this happened.

Shifting is all about the way each unique driver feels comfortable in their Z, as the commercial says ........SHIFT

on a stock car it would be where the peak hp is... example if it was like 260whp @ 6500rpm shift there... if you mod. your car you can get your numbers from the dyno. I was told by my neighbor who races that if the max power is 6500 for example but you shift at 7500 its just a waste of rpm because you been hit the max power... I will listen to him since his car does 6s! lol

Ah yes, the annual "What is the best RPM to shift at?" thread. Strange how it always occurs in Fall.

2005: best rpm to shift at....

2006: What is the best RPM to shift?

and now...

2007: Best RPM to shift at?

Cool. I start racing in the spring. Sometimes ECZA gets together at Raceway Park or Atco. You will do just fine.

BTW how far are you from Rising Sun, MD?

If this isn't a pure drag car... you must be talking about the 1/8 mile.

Think of shifting with VTEC or Lift in mind. When a VTEC engine shifts, it's possible for the rpms to drop below VTEC, resulting in less power... SO the higher you rev, the higher your next gear will be to the power.
The Z's max power is around 3200. Revving to redline will bring the next gear closer or into the power curve, resulting in a better power.
This make sense?

For normal city driving, what is your average rpm when shifting into 2nd gear?
