I don't understand why anyone would put darker tint on their car than the law allows in their state. Seems to me like asking for a hassle. Kinda like driving around with a broken tail light. Its enough for someone to pull you over and hassle you when you weren't doing anything wrong.

have the tint taken off and get some legal tint and pay the "stupid tax" ticket

I Think the Z looks better with tint, especially the darker colors. I know mine looks better with it but I also got the legal % for my state. 35% sides, 20% in back so I can see when backing up at night.

My question is this. What is the law while traveling through another state? Would traveling to a state that doesn't allow tint at all, like Illinois, get you in trouble?

If you play, you have to pay. If you want the tint still and you can get a ticket in your state. Expect a ticket. Why would you complain about it when you got a ticket if you did something illegal? If you have to pay $300 to have it re tinted next time and you really have to have it. Buy it again.... but, expect to pay the ticket.

Consequences, don't people think about them anymore?

One thing to remember. The day you need an officer he's your best friend. The day you get a ticket ... He's a jerk.
Agreed...

Don't be a dick. It is understandable to be upset at a cop writing someone up for petty **** like that.

You just had bad luck that day and MD cops can be dicks sometimes. Just pay the fine and get legal tint and you'll never have to worry about it again.

Which is true but if you have out of state tags you should get a pass on something like this.

The answer is Yes. My friend had this exact thing happen to him... Hes from MD and was driving in PA. In MD the tint job was legal but PA it wasn't. An officer pulled him over in PA and told him he had to take it off but he pleaded that "he was from MD and shouldn't have to." But the officer said it works the same way as most laws like the motorcycle helmet law where in PA you don't have to wear one and in MD you do... To which my friend gave a smart reply "well its a little easier to take off a helmet when you cross state lines than window tint," to which he received a nasty reply from the cop. But yea if your from florida and have legal limo tint all over your car don't come to PA!

The worst part is the cop made him come back to the station with his car to show that he had taken it off... What if he really was from Florida? GAY

Personal responsibility... Or is this an incident of lack thereof?

Yes. Whatever State or locality in the USA you are in requires respecting the local laws.

The universal standard: No tint on the lower part of the forward windshield (you can have tint on the top few inches of your forward windshield) and no tint on the driver and passenger windows. You can put as much tint as you want (or even a complete opaque block-out) on windows behind those I mention above (i.e., the rear passenger doors and rear window).

same exact thing happened to me today...cop actually followed me into the parking lot where i work and gave me the run around about my 15% tint...fortunately for me, it was a pretty female cop, ended up being like a AXE/TAG body spray comercial (just a warning for "excesive display of horsepower" because my exhaust was loud but i wasn't speeding, and then she asked how much i payed for the car)
