Default Long time stalker, first time poster...

Hey everyone! Names Sinan, I've been a long time stalker, but this is my first time posting. I'm looking for an 06 Z (gotta love that RevUP!!!) right now preferrably in Daytona Blue, but I'd be plenty happy with Pikes Peak White or Redline (best colors to go with CF). Truth be told, I'm also really interested in getting an 06 G35 Sedan (6spd only) so I'm still not sure which one I'll buy.

I really like the RevUP motor, and because of how well it responds to mods. BUT the oil consumption issue scares me a little. PLUS, my father is bothering me about getting a used Z (even though I'm the one buying it...). His worries of the Z being abused are totally justified, but the price of the 07-08 is a little too high for me, and I'm not really a fan of the HR (or that gawddamn Powerdome!!! )

What do you guys think?

Anyway, I've always been a huge fan of the Z33, and I currently own a 97 200sx 1.6 with very extensive suspension mods. I was also planning an SR20DE+T swap (got the SR20, JWT ECU, 72lb injectors, and a sex GT3251e turbo sitting in my garage), but the rust on the body and the 143K on it made me not wanna go through with it anymore. I'm gonna go N/A on either the G or the Z. I don't have lofty N/A goals, just a little more spunk (so spare me the F/I speech )

I really look forward to getting to know you all

Welcome man. As for the 200sx SR20 swap. That is fairly strait forward and simple. Since in 97 and 98 they had 200SX SER with the SR20DE. Granted if you got the Red Top SR20DET (transvers mount oposed to lateral) from the Sunny GTIR it will fit. Its fairly simple and straight forward. Pull engine, ECU, and harnes; replace engine, ECU, and harness. Granted thats a little over simplified, but not much if any custom work is involved. Its a shame because that would be a decent "Other" car when you start modding.

Every one has their own goals for their car. Whether it's show, FI, NA, or Stock. No one is turning you down or pushing you away. Since you said your a long time stalker you know the ins and outs. ALOT of helpful information out there man.

Again, welcom.

Thank you very much punish her! Yeah, I got really close to doing the swap a few times, and in fact the swap is even easier because I have a USDM SR20 off of a 97 200SX SE-R. With the suspension, the car is a hoot, and I know it would have been a ton of fun with the swap, not to mention that rare color on the coupe (silver). Its just the rust on the rocker panels, fenders, and rear 1/4 panels, is making me not wanna deal with it. I may likely keep the car for daily driving, but that's it. There is a ton of stuff I learned from this forum, and I look forward to learning more!

If you haven't seen the '07-'08 in person you should give the need hood a chance as I did not like it when I first saw pictures of it but loved it when I saw it in person plus the '07 is the fastest motor of all and from what I have seen responds the best to mods. You can always get an aftermarker hood maybe carbon fiber.

As in reving high yes. Fastest, um not so much due to the current lack of aftermarket support and readily available go fast parts. The better responce comes from the higher revs and larger displacement. A balance stroked VQ35 will respond about the same.

I'm talking stock to stock and their are actually quite a few aftermarket parts for the '07 already out to name a few intakes, hfc, test pipes, exhausts, clutches, limited slips. My '07 dynoed stock 269hp and 238 tq to the wheels show me an '03-'06 stock that can put down those numbers. My previous car was an '03 350z and now I own an '07 and it is much quicker. Just look at the 1/4 mile times guys are putting down on the forum stock.

i know that the few mods available for the HR have made some decent numbers, but i don't know, there's nothing like modding a car yourself, and seeing some nice results. I wonder if there will be more aftermarket support for the HR, or if the ones out now are as extensive as they get. I've seen the hood in person, and I'm just not feeling it. I hope that some nice CF hoods are on the way...

Get the 07 in DB...you won't regret it. Besides the 08's will help drop the price...a small amount at least.

I'm not sure by how much the price will go down over an 06, but I guess I'll ask around. I gotta say, everybody's pretty damn cool here. Nissan love!!!

^^^ Well, the HR motor and the revised chassis got a lot of rave reviews, One stands out in my mind when EVO magazine tested an 07 Z with a BMW Z4M Coupe, and the Z won. I mean, the BMW is an amazing car (I'm a huge BMW fan), but it goes to show you the accolades of the Z

I hated the hood too when I first saw it in photos, but in person it's hardly noticable. I would trade my 06 for an 07 in a second, the HR is higher reving AND it has more torque. That being said, I'm perfectly okay with my 06. As for the oil consumption issues, when i get my oil changed it's usually about 1/4-1/3 of a quart low, which is not enough for me to get worked up about.

Even though i'd rather have an HR, the revup is a great engine. It doesn't feel particularly torquey but nobody would call it weak at low revs either. When you rev it there's a nice bump in power around 4500-5000 RPM, so there's plenty of incentive to go for the redline at least once whenever i drive it. Also as a side note, the longer I own this car, the more I like the transmission. Whenever I drive anything else with a manual, it just feels completely sloppy and unrewarding. Rev-match up and down shifts perfectly, and there is literally no friction or play whatsoever, just....perfection.

Whew, i could go on all day about how much I love my Z, but uhm seriously...see if you can swing an 07.

really?! I never realized people would feel that strongly about the HR. I always figured the tunability of the RevUp made it more appealing. I guess if the price is right on the HR, then that's what I might get.

I think the general feeling is that the HR is Nissan finally "doing it right" the original VQ, while a great engine is not really a "sports car" engine. It makes power in the wrong way. The revup was kind of a bandaid, which helped the car feel more like a sports car, but it was a compromise and was noticably less torquey than the engine it replaced, so there were complaints that the car didn't "feel" as fast.

As a disclaimer though, I intend to keep my car mostly stock, so tuning isn't a high priority for me. I obviously prefer the engine that is best in bone stock form. If you intend to heavily mod your car, there are other considerations to take into account.

My 06 put down 264.4 stock to the wheels. I can put up the dyno charts if you like.
