I work for an oil change shop and am also a certified state inspector.

bottom line, if the customer wants to put an oil in to their car that is going to damage the motor, we have to let them do it. if they wanna try running ATF fluid through their engine block, we'll even put it in for them. Thats just how it is. If the customer wants 60 psi in the tires, we do it without question. Like when it comes to cars, the customer should always get what they want hands down. I use 0w30 Royal Purple XPR in mine, and my shop buys it and puts it in for me. They even have the container labeled "Jared's Oil" just so that they dont accidentally put it in someone elses car.

As for what the dealer said, check for updates means they check to see if there are any TSB's out on your car, replace your oil and filter, check your tread depth. the 5/32 number is the remaining tread depth on your tires. In texas, a minimum 2/32 is required in order to pass an inspection. the tread depth bars are at 3/32 on our tires.

I'm with ya... I live in Lakeland, we have 3 Nissan dealerships within driving distance "I won't name names" and I've given each of them the benefit of the doubt and taken my car to get routine service/maintenance. All 3 have pissed me off over just plain incompetence.

I mean, I’m talking stupid $hit like putting an extra quart of oil in my engine or putting all 4 of my tire’s pressure at 20psi while my TPMS is going berserk and them not even noticing it… Some moron had to actually check my tire pressure “I always keep it around 38psi” and say “ohh 38psi, that’s too much, I’d better let some out.” Oh yeah there, 20psi, that seems about right. Oh and that constant beeping from the TPMS must be normal. Who are these people?

AHHHH!!! Don’t get me started! Sorry for the rant, I would be happy to go into more detail sometime; I just don't feel like raving on for an hour right now.

I have a coupon for a free oil change from my dealer but I'll probably never use it. I changed it myself in 30 minutes after the initial breakin. The only pain is that there are 14 bolts and 2 clips holding on the engine cover. cordelss drill made quick work of em though.
