just so ppl are aware, its not all roses.
103k miles.. never raced, daily driven, all bolt ons aside from headers.. previously NA at that time.. Mobil 1 EVERY 3k miles, Synthetic Lucas Oil stabilizer in 2-3 oil changes a year.. Cobb tuned.
Rod bearing spun during normal driving.
Engine dead, crank ruined, metal everywhere in the oil from the bearing.
Dont get it twisted ( to the ppl searching this thread for reliability factor ).
Mines shot.
is it rare? for sure. Just read the previous pages.
But does it happen? Absolutley.
Solution? 2500 in labor and 2200 for a junkyard complete swap in for someone esles 50-60k engine and its inherited problems... or buy a rebuilt short block, or have it built locally and installed for 8 grand.
I went the forged rebuild way, and added FI.
Either way, this engine does die. Call it bad luck i guess.

meh, i mean i thought maybve, but honestly.. i did what everyone else does.. bought little stuff i could afford, built it up over time, treated the car well, didnt really race or anything.
But in all honesty that pretty much ruins the car. You buy an intake and it sounds cool, so you floor it more. But its not faster.
You buy an exhaust and it sounds cool, but then.. wait.. my cars actually a little slower.. so on and so forth.
The ECU flash just "fixed" what i had done to my car by using bolt on parts that mess w air. It was pretty damn impressive to be honest.
But that being said, i did it at 100k miles... cared for or not, i think it was just luck combined w several possibly unrelated things all coming together at once.
I posted up top just to show cared for engines driven by knowledgeable drivers that are super VQ saavy can still end up w a pile of scrap super easy. It wasnt a rod, it was just a bearing.
Its the luck of the draw.

on the bright side you are now driving a beast.
The one I'm picking up friday has 94k highway miles with CAI/exhaust.... so it'd be nice to see it last well into 150k

03 Touring 6 speed. 105,000 miles, she runs excellent. Very little modifications and no racing. Every leak was fixed on the double (Which there were three) Valve cover, oil pan, and washer fluid. Everyone also still on the stock clutch?

'03 Performance with bolt-ons. 113,000, loses a quart of oil about every 3000 miles but i beat the **** out of it at the track, on cruises with the local Z club, and 7 straight years at ZDayZ. Original everything except brakes and tires/wheels. Blizzaks in the winter. Needs front end painted and a couple of small dings taken out and that's it.

03 Chrome Silver 6mt, Just hit 120,000. I have replaced both window motors, an O2 sensor, regular oil changes, brakes and tires. I think my throwout bearing is going in my clutch as I hear a grinding noise and I got the axle ticking. She still runs like a champ though.

I just hit 199,000 last Wednesday but had to have the engine replaced at 134xxx due to flash flood and hydrolocking my engine. Which was awesome cause my insurance paid for it. Almost full bolt ons exhaust minus headers, intake, md ISO thermal it's needs a tune tho. Had window motors replaced idk how many times ,dead battery's, replaced radiator, cosmetics. But besides that it still runs like a beast. I bought the 03 when I just graduated high school from my dad friend that said he didn't like the car haha so he gave me a deal I couldn't refuse even tho it meant working to have the car. I love the car it'd a 2003 touring ss

Well, my 2008 Base is approaching 60K. Right now as it sits in the work parking lot, the ODO shows 59968, and when I get home it will turn over to 60K. Wow, an average of 20K miles a year, and pretty much trouble free, with the exception of the dreaded window motors that got replaced at 35K. At this rate, I'll hit the magic 100,000 by the end of 2013.
