okay heres how i was taught when i first learned and ill try my really hardest to explain this right using words but remember you have to have the stalling part(i.e. letting off the clutch and pressing on the gas) correctly down

Hills:
When you arrive at the hill press in the clutch and put your foot on the brake.

When you come to a complete stop with your foot still on the brake/clutch pull the ebrake.

When the light turns green(remember car in first!!)remove foot from brake and apply to gas upping the revs and lifting your foot off the gas and now at the same time take your right hand and as you press in the gas and lift your foot off the clutch slowly lower the ebrake until its fully down and by then youll be passing through the light!!

i know its a cheaters method but until i got driving a manual down i used and still use it on some hills every now and then....hope this helps

edit:btw before you first do this on a hill practice on a flat surface to get the timing down

Just remember one simple concept: The left and right foot generally are opposite. When the left goes down (clutch), the right comes up (gas). Vice Versa.

Also when in trouble put the clutch and brake down. It doesnt matter what gear you are in or trying to get to. Put the clutch down, stop the car, throw it in neutral then 1st and start over. Practice makes perfect. As for hills.... well master getting it out of the driveway and down the street first. Good luck.

I will try all these tips. Thanks alot guys. As I thought I was getting everything down, and what do you know the 2 hours were up, if I wanted another 2 hours it would have been another 108 bucks. Please keep the tips coming.

Dont panic, I promise you'll be fine within 2 weeks. In 3 months you'll hardly be able to believe you used to be unable to drive a manual.

just keep practicing. i'm sure a lot of people will agree that once you learn how to drive manual on a Z, almost all other cars will be EASY. haha try drive an impreza, I drove my friend's 06 5spd impreza and that car is easy. no need to release clutch at just the right time from 1st to 2nd for smooth shifting like in the Z, you just clutch in and clutch out no problems.

The 350 is more difficult to learn on against most other cars, so you master the Z, you can drive anything. Just gotta learn the engagement point.

Yes. 50 years ago. You gotta do it if you want to do it. Practice and more practice. There was a time when anyone who wanted to drive had to learn how to use a stick and virtually all of them succeeded. You will too. And so it goes........

I learned a manual for the first time in my Z, it took me a few days to get used to it and another week or so to get pretty good at it. It just takes some time, keep practicing to find that sweet spot

I had very limited m/t experience when I picked up my Z in early January of this year. Now, 7 weeks and 4000 miles (a lot, I know) later, I'm pretty proficient. The first week is always the toughest, but as others have said, you'll be so glad you stuck it out.

Depending on where you are in PA, we could meet in the middle and I could give you some lessons for the price of gas.

I just bought a 2007 MT "Z" in October, and it had been 13 years since I had driven a stick shift. It took me about a month before I felt comfortable again. Just relax and practice. What a chore that is - driving a Z! Give yourself a few months and you will laugh at it. As far engine speed when letting out the clutch, try keeping the revs at 2-3K. I think the "Z" is a pretty good MT to shift, of course I am camparing to my Dad's '78 Camaro Z-28, which was a very notchy shifter.

17 yrs old and learning to drive stick for the first time on a Z? dont want to sound like an ***, but if i was still in the process of learning how to drive stick id start off with a lil beater...17 + first time driving stick + Z = asking for trouble..its just like if youre learning to ride a bike.. youd start off with a 250 and not jump to like a 750.. i dunno maybe im just jealous..cuz youre 17 and you all ready have a Z but anyways gl with the driving.
