I would say that it all depends on what kinds of roads you are going to be driving on. I have a Nismo and love it, but it's not so much fun on bad roads (i.e. roads with potholes). If you have good, smooth roads, then I think the Nismo is your best choice. If not, I'd go with the more forgiving car option. While the Nismo has a very confident ride, it borders on being stiff and you will definitely tire of driving on roads that are in poor condition.
All cars with the VQ35HR engine are going to be fast, but the Nismo is the king of the corners. I used to like the speed of my car, but now I'm into its handling. When I go out with friends they all comment on its cornering ability but few talk about its speed, though both I believe are in the category of impressive.
Another think I've found is that while you can't speed in town, you usually can get away with quick turns and good accelerations on on-ramps, both areas where the Nismo excels!
I'm sure that you'll be happy with either car, though. Btw, don't be afraid to walk away a couple of times when talking about price. Make them a really low offer and if they don't bite, say that you will need to think about it. I like to start at about 2-3 grand below what you see the dealer cost of the car is on Edmunds.com. Also, it's a good idea to start these negotiations with several dealers at once. The dealership who finally got me actually sold me my Nismo at a 1,000.00 less than they originally offered. When they finally came down to my original number (which took several days) I told them that I had too much time to think about it and I was no longer interested. 15 minutes later I had a new Nismo at 1K below my original price.
Good luck!

I've seen a black Nismo at Stonestown in SF recently. It definitely looks much better in person than it does on the Net. The 08 GT is a great buy as well. I'm not sure what your needs are but personally if I had to choose I'd certainly be more than happy with either.

wow nice thanks for the info guys. brad568 sounds like a good idea. i went today and was not happy about the price since my G37 was 42,000 and they offered me 35,000 as a trade in on an 37,000 buy out for the g37. i wanted to just pick up an enthusiast for 31,000 but he said he wouldn't give me 35,000 for the g unless i got the nismo. they didn't have any black enthusiast but had a SMBlue, but they said they had a black enthusiast coming in 3 weeks but he didn't want to offer me the 35,000 for the g and give me the new one but wanted to sell me the SMBlue on the lot. i hope this makes some sense. i'm just waiting for him to budge and give me a call or im going to try other places but it seems like all the dealers don't have many 350z in black in stock.

sell the G yourself and then get the Z.
I'd stay away from any trade-ins... since it's another way for them to play their games and get more of your money.
simplify the buying process. don't do the trade in.
