OK, OK everyone read this!!
I was on my way home from my GF's house one night after fighting with her over wether or not im a "smartass", being alittle upset i open up my Z on the expwy. Well before you know it i was doing 124 in a 50 zone (ny city hwy limits), BAM i see a cop right up my *** i never noticed him he threw on his light and i pulled over. This A**hole says to me mind you this is the FIRST thing he SAYs to me qoute "I hope YOU HOUSE IS ON FIRE" now i wanted to laugh but i saw it as a way outta this mess, i say to him goodevening officer now is that anyway to speak to a citizen, he replies get the F**K outta the car! OMG, I SNAPPED i went off on him qouting rules out of his patrolmens handbook about CPR (Courtesy, Profesionalism and Respect) knowing these things for one sole reason MY MOTHER, SISTER AND FATHER are ALLLL NYPD! So, i finally say to him "you know something officer i know your name cause thats the first thing i look at, if i go home and my house IS ON FIRE, IM COMING FOR YOU!!
Well, after i qouted those rules outta his PO handbook and telling him who my family was HE ESCORTED ME HOME DOING 100mph, IT WAS HILARIOUS i will never forget it!!
DAMN DIRESPECTFUL P.O.'s

But in reality, if this is a true story, he could have taken your car. You should really think about that. I know your family is all blue, and that's good to get you out of some tickets now and then, but it's not a free pass to be reckless when other peoples' lives are on the line.
Stay safe.

IT was aprox. 4 in the morning there was barley anyone on the road and yes he was wrong by being disrespectful, you dont have to curse at the person or pull me outta the car. there are certain procedure's to stopping someone and NO cursin at them and tell them i "HOPE YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE" is not in the handbook PO's like the one that pulled me over are the ones that give the rest of the WORKING PO force a bad name!!
And I dont drive when i could risk others i drive how i wanna drive BYMYSELF AND WITH NO ONE ELSE
!!!!!!!
P.S. the story is true!!

I have too many stories of being let off.. so I wont bother saying them, I am sure I'll only get people pissed off.
Luckily, a lot of the speeding I do is in canyons.. which makes it hard for cops to determine my actual speed... especially since most cops dont like to sit and chase people in tight canyons, they'de rather sit on big streets in LA like Hollywood or Highland and just slam out citations to the majority. I guess canyons are just too dangerous for the Crown Victorias.. plus, those squad cars are TOO easy to ditch in the turns.
One of my better stories where I *did* get cought was on the very famous turns on Sunset Blvd where it changes from Beverly Hills to Bellaire, near UCLA. Anyone who knows LA, knows just how great those turns can be to drive. The road was pretty much empty, so I decided to take advantage of things. My view is, if you're gonna speed.. you might as well give it your all. I am not talking about driving wrecklessly, I am just saying.. if you're gonna risk putting a point on your record, might as well make it "worth it."
Anyway, I hauled some pretty good *** through those turns.. from the beginning of the Sunset turns (where the photo enforced intersection is) to about Beverly Glen. So I was sitting at the stop light talking to my passenger for a minute or so. All of a sudden we see a cop car FLYING to catchup withme.. then he slams on his brakes and throws on the lights. I mean, poor guy.. he really had to mash the gas to catchup! We were so ahead, that we were actually wondering if he was pulling US over! The expression on our faces was "whats he pulling US over for, we didnt do anything" -- then it dawned upon us that we just performed a quick run through the turns and THAT was what he cought us for.
Anyway, the officer approaches the car.. not too upset, but says "do you know HOW fast you were going?" I apologize and tell him "I am sorry officer, I do not know." He said "You were going ATLEAST 75 (in a 35 btw)." I gave him my famous double-take expression of surprise. He then asks for my drivers license, yada yada.. give him all the goodies. He walks away then comes back after a few minutes. "Do you know how fast you were going?" I replied "Sorry officer, I dont know." He replied "Atleast 65!!!" I just said "Oh." He then came back with a ticket and said "I wrote the ticket for 59 so that you can go to traffic school, sign here." So basically, he had no way to determine how fast I was going.. all he knew is that I was speeding. He then threatened me by saying "If you attempt to go to court, I will then tell the judge how fast you REALLY were going." Anyway, I signed my ticket and pleasantly departed..
After doing some research on how to fight my ticket, things really worked out well. For one, the cop was very close to being out of his jurisdiction. On the ticket, he said he paced me for 3/4 of a mile.. but according to what streets he wrote on the citation, if he DID pace me for 3/4 of a mile, he would have started pacing me OUT of his jurisdiction.. not good. Second, he had no clue how fast I was going and I was ready to cross-examine him on that. Its real hard to pace a car when the street is not straight and the officer has to worry about road conditions, traffic conditions, AND try to pace me. Of course, his car also performs and handles differently.. so its expected that his car will not take well to the turns and its easy for him to say "I am speeding" even though its just his car and his crappy tires, suspension, and 4000lb crown victoria. To top things off, he wrote "modified exhaust" -- what a joke. Anyone who has seen my exhaust knows it looks as low-key as possible. Just because my car shoots flames doesnt mean its MODIFIED. he he he!
To sum things up, I ended up going to court and he just didnt show. I would have had a hell of a case for him, it would have been interesting to see if I would win that one.. but, it was even more interesting getting that refund back from the state.

Even if cop got you there are at least 10 types or radar reading errors you can use to your defence. Fastest of the same size theory isn't proven fact. Cop can't assume that in court. There are all kind of known cases were radar was reading speed of blades of the fun on the wall of nearest barn, and even knocking a palm tree at 85 mph

Actually he can pull you out of the car. And by saying "I hope your house is on fire." in that context he obviously meant that he hoped you had an emergency, not that he hope your house was on fire.
Maybe it was disrespectful to curse at you and "pull" you out of the car, but he did have every right to remove you from your vehicle. In New York, speeding in excess of 40mph over the speed limit is an eleven point violation and an immediate suspension of your driving privelages.
And what is this? Because the officer made a crack because you were going obscenely fast, he is in some way liable if your house was set on fire? The guy is human. Maybe it wasn't the most professional thing, but cut the guys a break, they've had a tough go of it for the past couple years.
And people like you are not so great either. I admittedly get off some tickets because my father is a trooper, but your attitude indicates that you think you can get away with anything and everything because your family, not you, are police officers. That's disrespectful of everyone on the road and of all law enforcement officials. You should know that. All your family are apparently NYPD.
Anyway, I'm glad you got off the ticket and all, but I just don't think that you handled the situation properly and neither did the cop. But that's one side of the story anyway. All I know is I wasn't there. Take care.

I understand where your coming from on the point that you state, but you dont have to be obscene or rude if he would have been normal aboutthe situation i prolly would have gotten a ticket but because he was WRONG about things, and i POINTED it out to him he obviously relized he was wrong about things!!
AND, AND, no i dont take for granted that my WHOLE family INCLUDING me (soon to be PO) is on the force, that i think i can get away with EVERYTHING!!
Thanks,
Erich

reckless in VA
I'm an attorney in VA and the reckless driving laws are very strict. The charge is a class 1 misdemeanor, pretty serious considering a D.U.I is also a class 1 misdemeanor.
A general rule is that the commonwealth attorney will look to suspend your license if you drive over 80 m.p.h. regardless of the speed limit. It is also true that you should expect to get jail time for driving over 90. Expect one day for every m.p.h. above (even if you have a good record.)
I usually only practice in Northern VA courts so I can't really comment on other jurisdictions in VA.
By the way I slow my a*s way down as soon I cross the American Legion Bridge into VA.
