Dear Fellow members,

I am pissed. I went in for an oil change today and was told that during my previous oil change Woodsfield Nissan did not screw in the plug correctly resulting in a loss of oil and me driving with 2qt of oil for 3,000 miles. Engine is probably messed up. Any advice on how to proceed? Should I call Nissan? What should I do?
I am upset. Poor Z.

Why? 07 has no oil burning problem.

Nissan is responsible for it. Take it to them and have them pay for a engine. Call Nissan USA and let them know.

Agreed, although if one pays the dealer to change the oil, they should be able to trust that their mechanics can do a proper oil change without messing up. Hope it all works out for you though, at least it seems as though they acknowledge that it is THEIR fault, and hopefully they will properly fix the situation.

Never noticed ... but then I do my own oil changes and know how to tighten the drain plug.

so was the plug missing when you took it in for the next change? also wouldn't you notice oil on the ground after you backed out of a spot if the plug was gone or even leaking??? as much as it sounds as if it is their fault, it sounds like you should have noticed something.

it's their fault...give nissan a call
but you may want to make it routine to check your oil level regardless of if the 07 is not know for burning oil...just part of routine maintenance like checking tire pressure

Interesting. Why does a faulty drain plug leak 3 quarts of oil not 5? What kept 2 quarts in the motor?

nissan should take care of you, but my question is how do they know this?? is woodsfield saying they did not "screw the plug in correctly" or is someone else saying woodsfield did not "screw the plug in correctly"??? this is where it may be tricky to prove.

and bottom line in my opinion as a sports car owner you should be familiar with the type/condition/level of all your vital fluids, do you not love your Z enough to spend 5 mins doing a routine checkup??

Geez I never let the oil level go below the 3/4 mark on the dipstick.

The plug must be wierd on the z's, never changed the oil myself but i had to take it back to nissan once and an independant shop another time b/c right after my oil change they hadn't screwed it in properly and it was slowly leaking oil. I would get in the habbit of checking your oil frequently anyway.

Too many unanswered questions here.

How did oil change monkey determine that the plug wasn't screwed in and that was the cause?

Did he see oil leaking out? If so, why didn't you find puddles of oil under your car? As pointed out before, why did it stop with 2 quarts left?

If he didn't see it leaking yet observed "only 2 quarts" draining out, how does he know it's 2 quarts unless he measured it? What made him measure it (most places drain into a large pan/tank and virtually never know how much is drained out)?

If it didn't leak and he doesn't know where the oil went, how does he know it was from the plug?

If you didn't observe low oil pressure over the past 3mo/3K and the oil pressure warning light didn't come on, what makes you think the motor is damaged?

How do you really know that it was low by X quarts in the absence if any indicators from the engine or car?

I hate to bust your bubble - but unless you can provide credible answers then you're wasting your time. Nissan is going to ask them so you better be prepared to back it up with proof.

Why? You drive a car...with a motor. Any motor runs the possibility of using oil. Make it a habit to check it every so often.
