For all auto tranny drivers when you drive on manual mode at what RPM do you normally upshift and downshift?

I usually upshift at 3K rpm, and downshift at 2k rpm just curious how other do it.

 

Do you mean for normal driving, or racing?

Upshift at 2500K RPM in 1st gear, and 2K for the rest - I always shift as early as possible around town, helps gas mileage.

As far as downshifting, I let the car do that for me.

 

I take first up to 7000 then put it in neutral, let the revs drop then put it in D... then its in 5th...

J/K... but that does work. My shifting points are pretty close to when I would shift if it was a manual. I don't usually go to 5th until 40 MPH though. I know people say highest gear is best for fuel economy but if your easy on the go pedal it doesnt make much of a difference. VVT is awesome I must say...

 

upshift at 3k as ive noticed the shift is a lot smoother at this point, downshift @1800-2k rpm

 

Have you ever driven a stick, depending on given conditions, I shift at the RPMs that a stick would-like I said that can very-just like a stick. Basics are go by sound, and the feel of the engine, experience should dictate when gears should be changed,although the higher the RPM, the slower the gear change-just my opinion, with mine.

i don't like using the manual mode unless i'm carving a mountain because of that lag when gears change.

is there really a difference in mpg?

 

jsut leave it in auto mode when you doing normal driving. ***, but when im racing or going hard at it redline it in every gear

Old-timer...I only use the "P", the "D" & the "R". Period. (SOMETIMES, the "N").

 

Lag? There isn't supposed to be lag of any sort. Are you releasing your foot off the gas when you shift or something?

 

There is lag... unless your WOT, there's lag... I think the computer thinks you might want to downshift and its trying to be ready for it. But when your WOT it upshifts pretty quickly, no matter what RPM your at.

It's really weird... a valve body upgrade will make it shift faster though.

 

Never experienced anything like that, but then again I know that there are differences between 03-05 5ATs, and 06+ 5ATs.

The only time I experienced shift-lag, which is just the car intentionally slipping for a smoother shift, was when I first bought the car. After a a day or two of driving in M-Mode, it goes away, because the car adapts to driving styles. I only drive in 5AT too, and something like lag would bother me a ton.

I absolutely can't stand driving it in D, it revs too high sometimes before shifting, the shifts can be jerky, downshifts often unnecessary - for instance, when slowing down. In M-Mode, I can slow down to about 7MPH and still be in 3rd gear to accelerate again; if in D it'll downshift to 1st or 2nd, so when I put my foot back on the throttle I'll get a jerky surge - annoying.

 

typically the sound of the engine...I dont usually look. But I would say its always below 3k. I'll downshift on the interstate to 3rd at 55 or 60mph sometimes but not very often. Im pretty sure its right around 5.5k..but I dont know for sure
