We have major over head. As a sales person you may not believe this but we make a very small part of the pie.
Don't comment, don't defend yourself... I sold cars for two months, it sickened me... I honestly question how you people live with yourselves... but whatever... there has to be bottom feeders somewhere.
Whoa... Guess the sales guy didn't know what was headed his way.
I went to one dealer in GA who wanted 3.5K over MSRP. Said no thanks. Didn't feel the need to bash, just looked around until I found it at the price I wanted to pay (MSRP).
I'm getting mine 9/13 from Lithia Springs Nissan. The sales guy was good, just a little hard to get ahold of. Yes I had to drive way out of town, but I'll be worth it.
Richard, sorry to see you get bashed, but you said yourself you know what people know about your profession. I'd rather use my energy driving the car than discussing the evils of car salesmen.
(now donning flame-retardant suit)

Jeez, give this guy a break. There are good car salesman and bad, good dealers and bad and for that matter, good doctors and bad. (There are, of course no bad lawyers, . . . ok, so even I couldn't say that with a straight face.) I don't think it is evil to sell a car over list, but dealers risk losing customers if they do. Nevertheless, as long as the guy was honest and said this is my price, that's all he is ethically required to do. I mean that is the essense of capitalism, the dealer is free to ask any price and the buyer is free to take it or go elsewhere. HOW IS THAT MORALLY WRONG? Now, if the car is sold at one price, and then the dealer demands more when the car shows up, that's a whole different issue and is why god invented lawyers (unless it was that other guy who invented lawyers). I just don't think it serves any purpose to treat this guy like pond scum just because at one point his dealership wanted more than MSRP (and then backed off that). Now, if people come on here and say this guy jacked up the price when the car came in, then he would be pond scum, but I don't think that's going to happen.
Capitalism is one of the things that makes this country great, and pricing is the mechanism to balance supply and demand. Consumers are just as guilty for the prevalence of markups on new cars; if we all refused to pay them, they'd go away.
I HATE markups, as that's $$$ immediately down the drain that you'll never recover, on top of normal depreciation. Finding my S2000 @ MSRP was a major PITA, but I flew to LA to do it rather than bend over to my local dealers' attempted rape.
Dealers' primary objective is to maximize the return to their shareholders, not to give their customers cars @ MSRP or less. Can't blame them for trying to capitalize on a favorable situation (esp. given how heavily many other Nissans seem to be discounted), but I sure wouldn't buy a car from this dealership. I'd encourage others to take their biz to competing dealers selling @ MSRP. I'd like to see the day when dealers learn that markups are detrimental to long term profitability and customer loyalty.

They gave the money back and sold at MSRP !! WOW what decent guys
They intended to screw people over but Nissan was able to convince not to, somehow that doesn't clear you, a thief trying to comit a robbery but changes his mind is still a thief, he will just wait for the next opportunity.
As far as capitalism, this is not it, this is taking advantage of people and specially of their emotions, in this case it is not people looking for the van that best fits your load carrying needs which there would be many options but rather a 2 seater impracticle car that the only reason you would buy is because you really want it and the only reason to charge more than is reasonable is when it is a limited quantity without any future production such as the gold 20 dollar coin that was auctioned last month. I don't see Sears charging a premium because GE put out the lastest refrigerator and there are only a few initial units supplied.
Please there is absolutely not excuse to charge over MSRP. As I said before we don't need sales people for the dealerships they don't do anything, they can't even make a decision on the price of a car they have to go to the manager, all they need are 5 dollar an hour clerks to take the order and the maintenance department. I have never had a salesperson do anything for me that I thought merited them getting a commission and I can't think of anything they could do. Man I am going to need ulcer medication from this post, but like a car wreck I can't turn away, this guy just keeps dgging deeper with every post.

It was probably not his choice to sell at 2K over MSRP. Do you think a salesman has anything to do with that decision. this guy is just trying to make a living like the rest of us.
I ordered at Gwinnett Place, and I will be coming to view your Z when it arrives. Thanks for the heads-up Richard!

since they don;t earn a commission by "selling" cars then they need to earn it by taking the abuse, it makes me feel a little better.
I rememeber when I walked into Honda one day to pick up an oil filter, and this salesman SWORE UP AND DOWN the new Civic Si would hand the current Prelude its ***...
Bend over buddy... you're about to get kicked...

There seems to be two issues here:
-- whether or not it's right to charge over MSRP and
-- should a dealer treat everyone the same on price
Over the years I have never thought twice about using over supply to buy a car for invoice, way under MSRP. I'd "race" one dealer against another in a second to save a buck. So I guess if they have a car in demand, and someone is willing to pay it, why not ask for more?? Works both ways I guess. We are all free to say no, and find another dealer.
On whether everyone should pay the same -- well that just isn't America -- free enterprise, capitalism. The way I see it is "fair" not "equal" --- and "fair" many times, like it or not, is what you are able to bargain for.
So if you got the deal you bargined for, relax and enjoy it.

I have to defend Richard, but this is purely based on my experience. It is a real pleasure having a dealer that I can actually send e-mails to and get a response in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered my Z through Richard for MSRP. While I think selling cars over MSRP is an evil thing to do especially to a loyal customer, but I also believe that everyone deserves a second chance. I believe Richard and Regal just made a mistake at the start of the pre-sale program and they will hopefully never make the same mistake again.

Richard is a good person, I know him and I'm buying my second Nissan from him and he does his job well. Of course I was the
second person in the dealership with my thousand dollar deposit and don't have a delivery date or vin# yet? What's up with that Richard?

Certainly nothing personal to Richard or the dealership.. BUT now that JGrier said that.. I'm really glad I went out of town .. I ordered mine with 0 down on Feb 20th.. and have a VIN# set for Sept 3rd delivery in Louisiana..(fingers crossed)
