I remember from several aftermarket alarm installations I have done in the past that they all had a wire that was the remote antenna. You could simply lengthen the wire, and run it around the engine bay for added range.

I'm not looking for anything unreasonable here - just would like to get it working past 10-15 feet.

I should have also noted in my initial post that I've already changed the batteries in the remote. Did nothing.

You'll need to either solder on an extension to the fob or the cars antenna something like
http://www.instructables.com/id/Exte...eyless-entry./
I've not tried it so your on your own here.

Whats more permanent than holding it to your head?

I know mine has a pretty far reach on it. Maybe you should order another fob and see if it changes the distance.

I hold it above my head, extends the range by like 20 feet, at waist level mine doesn't work from over 10-15ft away. Above my head i can get to work almost 30-40 feet away, unobstructed that is.

try putting the remote to your chin and push the button. It works for me when im out of range. it's something like a human antenna lol. This works for most cars.

I increased mine by about 50%. I switched the Z's dsr-pl chip with the chip from a 2003 Audi, which uses a dsr-ps-tr3 series chip.

The Audi chips fits perfect in the Z's fob.

Just reprogram the Z'z reciever and yer done.

That's it? Change the battery man... mine works pretty far away, the other night I wasn't sure if I locked my car walking into a hospital and was probably 80 feet away, turned around and pressed lock and it flashed.

I don't think there is a whole lot that can be done to increase the transmit power unless you use some other type of device and adapt it for use as a remote for the car.

+1 This actually works. I was skeptical my self, but one day I was walking towards my car and from I just pushed the top of the key fob up to my chin and pressed the unlock. The lights flashed and the doors unlocked from way further than the "shooting from the waist" action could reach.

Yep, absolutely works with any car I have ever had. No metal plate in my head, either!
