Me Vs. MPG
Does anyone else have this weird habbit?
Everytime I refuel, I reset the gas mileage gauge. I'm constantly looking at this gauge. My average speed is usually around 36 MPH. When I'm going about 35 I find myself speeding up because I don't want to ruin my average. I take the same road to work everyday and there is always a section of road off the interstate where I can coast for about a mile just as fast as I would normally drive. I get a big rush to see my fuel mileage go up a few tenths. I'm averaging about 24 MPG so I think I'm doing ok.
I think I might have a problem!

I used to be obsessed with that gauge as well. After I realised that I wasn't enjoying the car as much, I changed it to the temp. I only look at it when I get a full tank of gas. So far I am averaging around 20. Just enjoy!
Ever since I passed break in, I can't do better than 16 mpg. For some reason I have a problem of not shifting before 5k, and I always seem to go 60 on any street, but is it so wrong of me to do so? I mean i literally enjoy every second in this car

I managed to stop driving so fast everywhere I go.. made the jump from 18.0MPG to 19.7MPG in about 2 and a half weeks, so I guess I'm doing something right. But ugh, now it just feels slow, so I think I'll go back to the way things were.

I WAS getting 24.7 MPG... that was until I got my new front tires and my alignment done. I am now getting 26.5!
Same roads, same driving conditions, same gasoline. Look what an Alignment can do for you!

From August '02 to about a month ago I always used the MPG gauge and found I was driving for MPG. Decided I wasn't enjoying my Z, so now it's on the MPH. Still check MPG once in a while, but am enjoying the Z alot more. Also found my MPG went up with my new front tires and alignment. Still get 19-20 MPG on the street. On the freeway I've got 30+ MPG which is great! I can now hear things other than the "roaring" tires. Yea!!!!
I usually average around 23-24 mpg when I don't track the car. But even after burning almost a half a tank at the track a couple of weeks ago, I still managed to get almost 19 mpg!
You may think it's no big deal, but my husband's Camaro is averaging around 8 mpg--*IF* he's nice to it. And I was very lucky to get around 15 mpg in my bimmer I had before. I think what I get now is pretty freakin' cool.

You know, I look at this gauge too much myself. Kinda wish we had an instant MPG on the computer, but oh well. But it does make me drive more like a stane person and I haven't gotten any tickets yet (knock on wood), so it is doing OK for me.
Really, I usually don't need the speed I build up. For instance, I will go up high in second or third in town, and coast in neutral to the next light or something. Gives me some excitement in the takeoff, while saving some gas too. And I get 22-23 MPG average.
