Default Skipping Gears when shifting?

Does changing gears from 2nd to 4th then to 6th hurt the transmission? I read in the manual that you can be in 6th gear around 40miles an hour and it seems pretty easy just to skip 3rd and 5th when driving easy...But does this cause any issues or harm? I've tried it for a week or so and its not seeming to be difficult to shift or anything...

Anyone know if this is a good idea or not?? Thanks

I doubt that it hurts anything... I remeber reading that corvette's MTs automatically skip from 1st to 4th if the rpms/speed weren't high enough (cruising vs. hammering it)

I do it just about everyday and for the past year or so. Not a single problem so far.

It wears your synchros down a little bit but as long as you aren't grinding gears or slipping the clutch you should be fine.

I don't want to sound as if I'm contradicting you, but how does it wear synchros down any more than just regularly shifting into gear?

I would assume since there is a bigger gap in the revs matching.

It doesn't affect anything, assuming you rev-match at least a little

harmless...if done correctly. Make sure you rev match and don't bog it down.

It's suppose to bad for the syncros, by skipping gears they don't have time to catch up to the engines rpm

old trannies(like old school old) you couldn't do that in but the new ones are made to skip gears... that is why you can go from 2nd to 5th if you want

I think this is part of the reason to have a manual... so you can do things like this when you need to.
