Hmm I should've known this would be a sore spot for people. First of all, read what i said. There is no hate for the evo. In my opinion evo's are FIRST and FOREMOST a kick *** car. I love them, and if i had to trade my Z for something an evo 9 would be at the top of a very short list.
However I stand by what I said until proven otherwise. The evo's primary purpose is NOT to make a profit on each vehicle sold. It's a "halo" car meaning it's purpose is to bring people into the show room where they can then decide that 40K is too much to pay for what they want and instead opt to pay 25K for a normal lancer laiden with profitable options. Again this is not a nock on the car, the viper has the same purpose and those kick a lot of *** too.
My original point was that it's not as flashy as a Z (read: it's a sedan and there are crappy non-evo versions available) and that it hasn't been a huge hit for mitsubishi profit wise (a ravenously dedicated group of fans do not necessarily equate to mainstream success or profitability.) Hence people are less likely to hate on it, although it still does get it's fair share.

And the best part? It's SOOOOO EASY!!! The Z can be beaten in virtually any measurment if you put it up against the right car. Plenty of cars are faster in a straight line for the money. Plenty of cars handle better for the money. Lots of cars are faster in a straight line AND handle better. Some cars are better looking. Etc... I could go on forever. The Z is about balancing all these things, which makes for a great car, but not particularly good bragging rights.

Imo cheap car means well..cheap car. maybe this time round it will get better parts etc.. And perhaps delay the kiddies a bit longer.
