wait til you get a 370z and you'll really be complaining about gas mileage. that is one of the reason i didin't get a 370z, my Z is a daily driver doing 60 miles a day.

I find that hard to believe. I've spent the day on the road course, full throttle in 3rd/4th for about 2 hrs using the whole tank of gas, mine read 6 mpg average for the day. Something seriously wrong if you're only getting 8-12. Are you shifting out of 1st gear, ever? Do you spend most of your time idling at red lights?

With the HR, I used to get around 320-350 miles from full tank to the gas light coming on. But that was when I first got the car. Now, I get around 220-250 from full tank to the gas light coming on. I do open the car up every now and then, but only for short spurts. I also live in Honolulu, where the climate is mostly warm and somewhat humid. The car is my daily driver, and the only difference from now to when I first got the car, is that I live a lot closer to work and have a lot less time to go cruise on the freeways, highways, or in the city. I'm pretty sure that makes the biggest difference. I figure, 5 days a week, I start up my car and make somewhat of an effort to warm it up for a minute. Then I drive about 4 miles to work, which, depending on how much vehicular traffic there is and how many traffic lights I have to stop at, will take me anywhere between 5-12 minutes. By the time the engine is warmed up, I park the car and turn it off until I finish work, then repeat on the way home. When I do get the chance to just cruise with the car and open it up more often, my gas mileage gets a lot better, believe it or not. Oh, and during normal driving, I shift around 2500-3000 RPMs, and when cruising, I keep the RPMs around 1500-2000.
I know this thread is pretty old, but for the OP, if you're doing short distance driving a lot, that can be a big factor, IMHO.

I upshift around 2000-3000 rpm for normal driving. And 3000-5000 for a quicker acceleration, and only rarely hit the redline. I do spend a lot of time at the red light due to the huge population in my area, there is a red light on every block.

I don't know... still doesn't seem right. When was the last time your car had to pass smog? Could be running rich or something.

8-12 indicates a serious problem somewhere. Then again, there is only one true way to figure mileage and it is not by using the gauge so I would question the accuracy to begin with. And I am always amused when the discussion turns to miles per tank. Meaningless for the most part.

Similar bump for me w/the exhaust - I regularly got 18.5, now it is 19.5. That is with the onboard mpg meter - but still shows about a 1mpg increase due to the exhaust. That impresses me.
I haven't seen anyone talk about average mpH. I would think that would be one of the indicators that could point to varied mpG.

I average, with racing, abotu 19mpg. Daily driving and driving to the track I'm around 26-28mpg. I usually do 70-75mph, shift around 1800rpm

I filled the tank yesterday, resetted the gauge. Now I'll stop resetting it everyday and try to figure out the mileage per tank. If it still doesn't seem right, I should have my car checked by the dealership, I got it for less than 2 months.
Another thing is that although the specification for the car says 20gallon tank, when I filled the tank yesterday, the gas gauge is already pointing at Empty, but I have 15.8gallons to completely fill the tank until the fuel leaks out. Perhaps it's a 16 or 17 gallon tank?

its constantly showing 19.3 because that was the last time you told the computer to recalculate it. Go to the mpg calculator and press and hold the second button until the screen displays dashed lines, you have to do it while your driving so be careful, it will then calculate it while your driving. But again its a poor way to calculate mpg. Oh by the way your miles per tank are horribly off, I can get at LEAST 300 and Im between 8th of a tank and empty. So yea I'd suggest getting it checked out, or start using higher grade fuel, I'm not talking about better than premium, I'm talking about better grade fuel, don't use Walmart brand premium, use shell or mobil. I use shell's premium and I noticed an average of about an extra 75 miles per tank, I switched from Hess brand and Kangaroo brand to shell and now I don't use any other brand and it's only a few cents more.
