Unhappy Got hit from behind...plate # still there

Well, im pretty bummed right now. I know its really not that bad, and its just a car, and no one was hurt etc...but this girl hit my car from behind tonite and im soo blown

BTW, for those of you who read my thread a few weeks ago about being a cautious driver, this little incident happened on the SAME DAMN ROAD! SO for drivers in Springfield, VA BEWARE OF OLD KEENE MILL RD!!! Here's what happened tonite:

I was on old keene mill rd about 12:30 am heading to a pool hall, and there is construction going on this particular road (they're repaving it) So traffic is kinda stop-and-go. So we're all creeping along, and then BOOM! It felt like i stalled out REAL hard, then I realized, i was in neutral...so then it dawned on me real quick that someone bumped into me. I looked in my rearview, and saw the car behind me stopped, and the driver slowly coming out of her car. I just dropped my head and opened the door, almost in slow-motion because I didnt want to see the damage... I walk back, expecting everything to be crumpled in, but surprisingly it was okay! Then i looked closer and found the damage. Luckily, just her license plate hit the back part of my car, just above the exhaust. So ive got a bunch of little scratches, two big holes where her license plate screws were, and yes people, i HAVE AN IMPRINT OF HER PLATE NUMBER tatooed on the back of my car!! So we pull off to a well light parking lot, and a cop comes over too (he was near the repaving, and noticed the incident obviously) The girl (she's 20), was definitely drunk. I could tell from the beginning. It looked like she was crying at first, but then I looked closer, listened to her for a min, then took NO time in realizing she had definitley had a few to drink tonite. The cop didnt notice, to be honest, he was actually more interested in my car than anything! He was asking me about it, how I liked it, etc... Anyways, the one thing that sketched me out after the cop left, the girl came up to me apoligizing and said "oh my God i was so scared, Let me give you the real info!" SHE must have written down some false info on the piece of paper!! I wasnt going to make a huge deal, just cause she said she was going to be honest with me then. Plus I figure no matter what, even though its not really funny, but I do have her plate number...on the back of my car But anyways, I probly am not gonna call insurance, no need involving them it really isnt too bad. Probly some touch up paint, and maybe little buffing out should do the trick..its just the fact that it happened thats so bothersome. My baby is barely a month old.

question: Has anyone had to get a bumper or some part of their car repainted yet? Cause when I asked about it when i got my car, one of the guys in service said if they have to repaint it, it will never look the same as new...so do you all think I should just try and cover it up with touch up paint and do some light work, or what? I think the worst damage that would be visible after some good cleaning would be the little circles from the screws on her license plate. So now i'd have a set of holes in front (my license plate) then in the back (from her's!!)

thanks for any replies

drive carefully...or at least hope others out there do

drew703:
as for repainting your rear bumper:
it depends on the body shop. some places will "blend" the paint on the surrounding quarter panels. just make the girl who hit your pay for a new bumper (perhaps an aftermarket one)
afterall she was intoxicated.

I was hit and had my right rear quarter panel repainted. Two coat of paint and two coats of clear-coat. It looks fine.

I got hit last night too. I was on my way to the Middle Tennessee Z Club meeting. It put a little crease in my rear bumper. I did not call the police we just exchanged info and parted ways. It was rush hour and traffic was bad. I will let my insurance handle it from here.

The EXACT same thing happened to me.

I had the rear bumper removed (important... don't let them paint it still on the car), the imprints filled, and the whole bumper repainted. The paint match is PERFECT. The results absolutely depend on the quality of the body shop you take it to. I recommend going to a dealer that does a lot of work on Zs, and not a thrid-party paint shop.

Total repair cost for me was CAD$600 (about USD$450).

The guy at the shop was probably talking about the paint fading and not being able to match the color after the fade. Your car is brand new so they should be able to do a good job and sand down the old paint and add primer and paint. If the shop couldn't do it, find a shop with better reputation.

I still don't get it... she hits you from behind -- and you are looking at fixing the bumper.

One month after getting my car... I was stopped at a stop light...when --boom-- hit from behind by a women who was also hit from behind by an idiot who was literally asleep at the wheel. I got a full rear bumper replacement. Of course, the asleep driver's insurance company paid.

Why don't you do the same ??

You shouldn't have to pay for other people's mistakes.

Default thanks all

Thanks for the input everyone. I went to my dealership (they have a bodyshop there luckily) and the estimate was $400. So that doesnt sound too far off from RoadRagerInTherapy's situation. I still have to call the girl today (she gets off work after 3 I was told). Not going to file a claim, im not trying to cause such a big hassle nor raise my rates And the guy i talked to today who gave me the estimate said it would be no problem matching the paint since it was so anyways. (just like you said 350zroadster )

I'll let you all know how it turns out, and I'll try and get some before and after pics too. (I'm not working today, so I'm bored..lol )

well here you have to pay insurance deductable, a minimum amount of money to do any repair, even if you're not at fault. Usually it ranges from $100-$500. Also it raises your insurance rate the next year.

Not sure in the US... since I have been in Japan for some time...

However... here... the accident is determined based on cause. One of the easiest is --- if you are completely stopped legally.. and somebody hits you from behind -- it is determined 100% the other driver's fault .. and his insurance company pays for all of the repair.

That is why I got an entirely new rear bumper.

We had similar situation and here is how we handled it...

My GF was driving a brand new RX300 when she was side swiped at the toll by an equally young female in brand new VW Jetta.

To make the long story short. They exchanged information. When my GF called the girl she asked if they preferred to settle it without insurance. The girls parents opted to go through their insurance since damage to the Jetta was pretty extensive.

Next, my GF called the girls insurance company and explained the situation. They called the girl to confirm that it was she was at fault, she acknowledged. The appraiser came out, and estimated the damage to be ~$1600. We took the car to the shop and got it fixed as good as new with the whole ordeal taking less then a week.

Notice that our insurance did not have to be involved because the other driver was at fault and admitted.

I'm not gonna lie...she looked REAL good! She looked mixed, maybe spanish and white. She was definitely hot...I didnt wana bring all this up until after or so..hehe
I talked to her today, and we just settled it over the fone, she's gonna send a check, I'm gonna get my baby repaired and it's all good. Lol, actually it was kinda funny cause after it happened last nite, even though I was pretty pissed, one of my friends came up to me and said "Yo drew PLEASE let me get her number, she's soo hot, etc" And she gave him it too! Besides I already have a girl, so I might get murdered -- she owns me... but it's all good though I have my Z
