Default Why 350z!!!????!!!

I am curious, why would you choose 350z?

If I wanted performance but value, I would go for Evo 7 or 8 which has a much faster 0-100kmph and should have higher Top speed like 260KMPH, 350z might top at 230KMPH.

I am just curious why no one here consider Mitsubishi EVO 7 or 8 as it is faster and cheaper.

Enlighten me please.

Aesthetical value means a lot to many high performance drivers, the most of which includes factors like vehicle design and coupe (2 door) status.

Not to say that the Evo is a sh*tbox, but I wouldn't drive, let's say... a Beetle that exerts 400hp just because it MAY be faster and cheaper.

Every car has its place, and personal preferences influence additional decision-making changes accordingly. Basically, get what you want. If the best performance for the buck is what you want, then do that. If you want a good balance of design and performance, then.... you get the point.

Good points thus far. It's definitely about more than just the numbers on paper. I do want the most performance I can get for my money, but I also want a car that looks good, and a car that is fun to drive on a daily basis.

I personally like to consider more than just high performance driving. For a lot of people (myself included), I only own one car. Whatever I buy, it's not only my weekend racer but also my daily driver. I'll be going for a lot of high performance drives where I push it hard and rev it high (mmm... Thunderhill, Sears Point, and not to mention the plethora of delicious twisty back roads all over the place), but a large majority of my time will be spent driving around town.

From what I've read of the Evo8, it's somewhat of a dog when driving around town. I recall at least one of the big car magazines noting that you really had to lug it to get it going, especially if you stopped while facing up a hill. You'd smell clutch every time trying to get it started up that hill. There's just nothing down low until the turbo spools up. That makes driving the Evo8 as a daily driver not much fun.

So despite the Evo's *incredible* performance when driving hard, I want something that's more balanced for more situations. I'd probably take an STI over an Evo, simply because the STI has a lot more grunt down low. But, that being said, I'd still take a 350Z over either of them, because the Z not only has the grunt down low and power up high, but it looks great. I'll miss the back seats and storage capacity, but for me the pros outweigh the cons.

Simply put, if all you see is some numbers on a sheet of paper, then you are are missing the point. That and you would be much happier in an Evo8.

Ask Ferrari 360 drivers why they prefer their Ferrari to a Z06 Corvette -- the answer to both questions is the same.

That's a good point. The Z06, stock from the factory, beats just about every production car on the planet in track times. Yet people still spend much, much more on cars that don't perform as well. But I can understand that. If I could afford any of those types of cars, I'd take a 911 Turbo or 911 C4S or Ferrari 360 over a Z06 without hesitation. I completely understand that the Z06 can beat them both on the track, but the track isn't my only reason for buying a car.

Perhaps if I was a performance *purist*, I'd take the Evo8 more seriously and not care about looks and style. But I'll step up right now and admit I'm not a performance purist. I *love* performance... but I want to look good, too.

Even if you eliminate the sibjective factor of which car looks better, go drive a Z through some tight turns and do the same with the Evo. You'll quickly understand that straightline speed is just one part of performance. Most roads aren't straight and neither are most tracks!!

Why come here!!!????!!!

I've personally owned a Mitsubishi and it wasn't so wonderfully reliable. I wouldn't have minded that if Mitsubishi took care of their customers, but they don't. I'll never buy another Mitsubishi again.

I wanted a car that is backed by its company, is reliable, fast, handles great and doesn't have four doors, a backseat, and crappy dealers/service departments (at least in my area - Mitsu dealers are notoriously bad here). A jazzed-up Lancer will never look as good as a 350Z, IMO. I drove an EVO VI in Japan years ago and I loved it, don't get me wrong, but I was also a Mitsu fan back then. I've since become wiser...

I'm 25 and I already think I'm too old to be driving a little teenager ricebox. 0-60 time is not the only factor when buying a car, kiddo.

The Z is actually cheaper. So why not? Looks great too! Life is not all about 0-60 or how many G's on a skid pad.
But I'd get the STi over the EVO.

Excellent point.

The description may sound great but doesn't necessarily reveal the comprehensive nature of things...

EXAMPLE: Dating Service

- Women, 24 years old
- 36D-26-36
- Graduated Berkeley with honors
- Masters degree from Stanford
- Salary: Over $150K/yr.
- Excellent cook
- Drives a Z
- Seeking a single male that she can take care of (i.e., buy things, massages, etc.)
- Looking to have fun, commitment not necessary

... but then...

Oh yeah, one more thing, aftermarket, aftermarket, aftermarket.

There is already a Supercharger and prototypes of a Twin Turbo out there for the Z. So you take $6K and I'll take $6K and bolt on whatever in the hell you want to an EVO or STi and I'll spend the same amount on a Z and we will see where we are. EVO and STi are already forced induction so the upside of mods is necessarily more limited than the Z's.

As its been said before... any fool can drive fast in a straight line. You can turbo the crap out of a station wagon, or grocery getter... and its still that.

The Z has the handling, and the style... along WITH the performance. Cheaper than the STI and EVO (in the trim level I bought).

So, original poster, I think the concensus seems to be... go back to your "Custodial Engineer" job at Mitsubishi, and drive a few cars before you try and spew facts.
