Default After I took a test drive without salesman next to me....

I had a great experience at a dealer few days ago. I had talked to a salesperson before I went down to the dealer. After an hour drove to the dealer, the 1st thing of the salesman did was just put the key in my hand and said he was busy, I could do whatever I wanted and asked me go take a test drive with my girlfriend. Yes, me & my girlfriend only. I mean he didnˇ¦t even ask my driver license. Then he walked back to his office.

My question is after I took a test drive and back to the dealer. I smelt something burnt inside the car. I am not sure where is came form. I pop the hood up, not as bad as in side the car. Then I went to the rare wheel; I smelt something stronger there. May be the clutch? But I still not sure those burnt smell is came form there or not.

That car only has 5mile before I drove it and I add 2 miles on it. I did not redline it; even there was no salesman next to me. I shift at 3500-4000rpm. So is it normal for a brand-new car or it might have some problems, since this is my 1st brand new car I am going to buy.

Now I am working with my bank to get a better rate than the dealer gave me. Then I will go back to the dealer to pick up this car in a day or two. Hopefully that car is still sitting at his lot. Thanks for any input and sorry for my broken English. (I am a Chinese)

yeah, not to insult you or anything, but when i was reading your post, i also thought that maybe it was that you did not completely release the hand brake.

people forget... could happen to anyone.

Hand brake or maybe the exhaust funk that comes with all brand new Zs for a couple hundred miles?

Probably “new car smell”. I had a “burning” smell from my engine for first hundred miles or so.

Good luck on your purchase.

Default Burning Smell

Vash -

I took delivery of my Z on 8/26. I think what you're smelling is typical of a new car. The first couple of weeks, things are heating up and burning off coatings etc., particularly on exhaust systems.

I went through the same thing. It wears off in about a week of normal driving.

That's a logical too.

Thanks for everyone. Thatˇ¦s mean that burning smell is normal, right? I feel better to take this car now.

So it wasn't a Nissan Dealer?
It is a Nissan Dealer. I contact them via nissanusa.com. You could search under CA 92675 .

Just curious, any owner has this ˇ§new car smellˇ¨ too?

Default Yup

Yup it's just the Cosmolene coating on the exhaust burning off.
