It's totally true. Every Sunday I take my car out in to the driveway, turn her on, drop her into neutral and put a brick on the gas pedal. After about 30 minutes, those cobwebs are long gone.

Are you aware sir that may cause damage to the engine and perhaps shorten its life span? I think as long as you change your oil frequently it may be OK but I am not a mechanic.

Once a week? That's nothing.
+1

You guys are crazy.

edit: nevermind. after reading the rest of your posts it is obvious to me you have no clue WTF you are even talking about to begin with. go bark up someone else's tree; preferably someone who actually may care what you think

and for your first sentence, do not make assumptions you know nothing about. i can say that you are wrong.
You're missing the point entirely. I know why the HR engine has a higher rev limit. It makes more power at a a higher RPM. A higher RPM for a DE wouldn't give it any more power. Also it may not be able to handle it as well.

Also, you never mentioned that in your post. Who holds an engine at its redline? You're always going to bounce it off the rev limiter when taking it to redline to change it to the next gear. What you're saying makes no sense.

Saying taking an engine to the redline once a week is going to kill your engine is stupid.

Nothing like a ad hominem attack when you can't attack the argument.

You going to attack my mom next?

i know for rotary engines it's not such a bad idea to redline every so often. the rationale behind it is that it clears out carbon build-up in the engine. but that's a rotary engine.

i've yet to redline my z, and don't ever feel the need to. if you look at most dyno graphs, power drops considerably at redline so i don't see why one would ever "need" redline a DE or HR.

Go to the drag racing forum. You lose power before the redline, but you'll be in a better part of the powerband after changing your gear near redline. You're setting yourself up for the next gear.

Actually it is very important that you redline your engine after an oil change to get all that new oil flowing. While you are sitting there with the engine pegged, its a good time to clean out your cubby.

why are you guys being so mean to the newb?, its a legitimate question

to answer the original question, i cant say that it is something you should do, but running up to red line on occasion wont hurt your engine as long as it is properly warmed up

so it probably wont do anything but it wont hurt anything either

Proper oil changes and a warmed up car, a weekly dash to redline SHOULDNT screw anything up. Just my 2 cents.

Yes that is VERY bad.You should only red line it in neutral to feel the whole experience.

I just did this and now I can rev higher than 8000 rpm!
