Default How was your Z Puchase Experience

After a year of emailing and going to local dealerships, I finally got my Z at Carmax. For a year, seems like when you email the dealers from Nissan's site, you think an internet sales person will get back to you. Went in, and most of them are just regular sales reps trying to make that profit. Also, some of the responses were from Internet managers referring me to a sales rep.Did this for a year looking for a good deal with same results.

Went in saturday after talking with one sales guy thinking he would give me a good deal on 2004 Base. So I come in 9am and test drive the car. After that, the game was on. MSRP was 27280 with destination+options. He pulls out 31K+destin+tax/titles..etc.And so nicely, 2500K discount from ADP.Still if you do the math, comes out 1500 over MSRP roughly.
Kept trying to tell him I have the same car at Carmax selling less than MSRP. Why would I want to pay over that. Offered him 26K(500 over invoice) but no deal. Advised Carmax price was 26488 and can you beat it. Then he went on all this ramble on Carmax not a dealer...etc. Advised him they are Nissan NewCar and service. He did the check with my manager in the back game couple times but I didn't budge. Finally, got out of there and headed to CARMAX. Got the car and no haggle. Yeah, its 995 over invoice but worth it. Its a 2004 SS Base with only 5 mi on it for me.

Very happy now. Thanks to all the info on this site, I was able to understand the game.

Some dealers insist on asking a higher price than other places and sooner or later someone buys them. They sell fewer cars but make more on each one. The trick is just to go elsewhere, like you did.

My experience was great. I bought mine from Chad Newton at Herb Newton Nissan in Oak Ridge, TN. They understand the Z buying experience. I was the first one to order one from them. They made a sale; I got a reasonable price. We were both happy.

Thumbs up

My buying experience was great. I got my thru Steve Perovich at Nissan of Fife. I bought my 02 Maxima thru him too. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again if I needed to.

Background info: I was looking for DB 03 Enthusiast automatics w/minimal options for awhile thru him and several other dealers and there weren't any nearby. Fife happened to have a 5AT DB w/minimal stuff already ordered, so I put down a deposit in mid-July, ETA was Sept 10th, then the 12th. Also, their price was the best. It showed up early on Aug. 28th! Yay!

NICKST, why don't you check the inventory list from nissanusa.com from your area. The 2004 Zs are in starting middle of August here. The car I looked at first was already 3 weeks old. There's no need to order unless you got a really good deal.

i did all the shopping over the phone with a dealer. i got a SB Touring for exactly MSRP + all options (got the nav for half price). I got numbers faxed over to me, I was satisfied with it. I went to the dealer, took a test drive, signed a few papers, and that was it. I was only at the dealership for less than an hour. It was the most pleasant car buying experience I've ever had (out of a total of 4 others).

I bought my brickyard touring through Costco's program, $1000 below MSRP, no haggling.

Default The Game

I went in and told them that I was only paying MSRP and they could forget about trying to charge me for the paint sealant (either take it off the price or I walk.) They asked me if I was going to finance it through them and I said give me your best rate. Which was 1.7 percent more than I already had lined up. Make along story short I got the car for 100.00 dollars under MSRP. The general sales manager knew I had done my homework and was getting frustrated at their games.

That was last May when a lot of people were still getting gouged.

I am happy that the buying ordeal is over and my dream car is in my garage.
