Default What a pain in the....

I went to to my car on my lunch break, and when I am walking up to it I see something sticking out of the rear passenger tire. There is an 8 inch piece of metal sticking out. The tire was not flat yet, so I decide to to try to run it down to the local tire store. I try to take it out, and I hear major hissing, so I decide to just leave it in, I only have to go a mile down the road. I start driving and the tire pressure is still at 33psi. Once a start moving I hear the rod start pnning around and smacking off the inside of the wheel well. I pull over, and the paint on the splash guard is already scratched up, so I decide to just break of the rod. Get back in my car and the tire pressure dropped to 24 psi. I make it to the tire place, the guy takes off the tire and it turns out that the puncture is too close to the edge for him to patch it, and they don't even have the tire in stock, and if they did it would be about $260. He helps me to put the spare on, and then loads the bad tire into a large plastic bags and loads it into my trunk (all this and he didn't charge me a penny, just said he was glad to help and he wished me luck. That was the one bright spot of my day). I call my Nissan dealer, and they don't have any in stock either, but they can also order one for abuot $280 installed. I try calling every other tire place in my county and none of them have my size in stock, and none of them could get a new one for less then $260, and 3 days. I went to tirerack.com and ordered a new one for $218 shipped, and it will be here in 2 days. I never thought a flat tire could be such a pain in the a** and in the wallet.

ok I'm done ranting now... thanks

ran the thing over. They are doing repairs on the road near my office, I think that is where it happened.

Why didn't you put a spare on yourself instead of driving on the deflated tire?

it wasn't really flat (24psi) and I could see the place right down the road. I certainly can change a tire if I have to, but this time I felt that I could make it down the road.

i hope your not talking about the stock tires. cause there only like $160 a piece. this past friday i went to get some new tires (pilot sport a/s for rain/winter) and after leaving i decided to drive around and see how the feel compared to stock. i barley got 10 miles down the road when i heard something hitting my wheel well. i got out to check and it was a d@mn nail sticking out of the tire!!! i was so pissed, but when i pulled it out it wasnt leaking (it was really only about 1/4 of the way in) so i just let it go.

sadly I am talking about stock tires. I called at least 10 shops in my area and the lowes quote was $249. If you know a better price, I wish I had posted this sooner.

Default funny story

this past saturday I get her call cleaned up for the weekend out and I leave home. I hear this thump thump thump. It gets progressively faster and louder, the faster I go. Then when I get on the freeway I don't hear it. I do what I have to and get back in. I hear it again. I'm like **** wtf is that? So I get out and I have this huge bolt with washer still attached, embedded in the tire. So, I was about to drive over to Nissan anyway to get oil changed. Guess what? They don't do tires. So I take it to Dis. Tires, they are like sure and it will $13!! So I say ok I'll bb in a few. I come back in like 15 minutes and I see the car has been moved, I'm like cool, that's fast. I get over there, and the guys is like. "we can't find the key for the locks" In the back of my mind I'm thinking, you kow what I have never seen one, "uh oh". So we look and nothing. Guy comes out, says car is kick *** and he couldn't find one either. I call the dealership and I get the same crap from salesman, sales manager and general manager. It is " it should be behind the passenger seat" I'm like, no it's not there. They are gonna call me back. I took the car there at about 11:00am and now it's about 1:00pm. So they call, and say they are looking for the master set of locks so they can come and help me out of the jam I'm in. Meanwhile " I'm thinking again, you don't know where your master set is at?, uh oh" They are gonna call me back. They do and they are coming, and want directions to where I'm at, which by the way is about 40 minutes from dealership. They get there, with new set of locks and new key. It's 2:35pm and it's almost over. I get car back and everything is fine.

So yes it's a pain in the *** when you get a flat or a bolt w/washer in your tires. 3 hours 35 minutes for a flat.

i GUESS YOU DIDN'T GET THE TIRE WARRANTY?

oops sorry caps, anyway, figures the ones that get the warranty don't use it and the ones that don't have it, need it.

I got the tire warranty, and yes it was a ripoff, but I am better safe than sorry now.

Sorry for the bad luck.

Yes I got the tire warranty, it was an add-on and it wasn't cheap. They suckered me into believing it was for the wheels and the tires. I got 3 years/36,000 miles warranty on the wheels/tires.

Basically its' an expensive tire warranty. But they say it covers the wheels also.

I am like, so if the wheel gets bent or what about curb damage?

They wern't too sure about the wheel part, but said the tire gets replaced for free. I read the small print after the fact, and of course there's a small deductible and they go by threadlife left.

The salesman told me I could cancel and get my $ back if I didn't liek the warranty. GUESS WHAT?

The tire and theft warranty ARE NOT CANCELABLE! Once you bought it, its yours.

Oh well, people learn the hard way, I guess I am one of them.

So beware of the tire and theft warranty. Read the fine print!

god i hope you didnt get a warranty on the stock tires cause
they suck. there terrible in the rain, dont get that great of traction and the tread wear is terrible. im at 16k and the d@mn things were almost down to the radials. plus, nissan and bridgestone tried to give me the shaft on the feathering/uneven wear/excessive wear issue. god am i glad to see those things go!! i dont know which nissan cut corners with more, the bose stereo or the re040s.

Hmm, a friend of mine was driving to school, and near where they park there was construction going on. They ran over a nail, and got a flat. My friend then went to the city hall, and they paid for his tire.

Just thought that was intresting.

Also, if you get AAA road side services, they cover road debris and will replace your tire.

I answered my own question. I called AAA and they don't pay for any repairs. They'll change the tire for you, but they wont pay to replace it. But it was worth finding out for sure.

I just got it fixed this morning, and if this wasn't enough fun, I get back in the car and pull out of the lot and the psi warning light comes back on. I do a u-turn and ask the guy whats up, and he says that he spent the last half hour trying to get the light to go off ( I was wondering why putting a tire on took about 45 minutes). So he takes it back in, and after another 20 minutes, he finally gets it working. What a pain in the a** it has been to drive over some stupid little piece of metal. Well at least it is done now. And I have to give kudos to tirerack.com. They were over $50 less than anywhere else I checked (including shipping) and the tire was delivered withing 24 hours.

That sucks, but im glad you got it fixed.

Let see, in one week. I get a flat one day, get it replaced. Three days later, I get another flat. On the way home from the tire place, I get ANOTHER flat! You better believe I was one pissed off guy.
