Some people get way too carried away when it comes to bashing the Z's auto tranny
OP, it sucks when people hate, especially when they ask "why did you dump so much money on an auto?" I've learned to get over it because I enjoy my Z. I did most of the work, I take the painstaking time to detail it and make it look good on a daily basis. As long as YOU'RE happy with the car, which is appearent, that's all that matters. Let the haters hate and the ignorant be stubborn.
I agree, as long as your driving a z, your all ready a hell of a lot better off than most people out there. the transmission is just a preference, not something to hate on. Im a 6mt fan myself, but i have to admit, the 370z has one of the crispest ATs ive ever driven! (and im a valet, so ive driven LOTS of NICE cars)
people bash me all the time for my auto, then we hit the strip and they all shut up. if you love your car like i do, and i cannot drive a 6spd like i want to cause of a messed up knee, then who cares, i tell the hates to **** off. i drive a z because i love it. nuff said let the haters hate
making stupid comments like yours behind a computer screen = no *********
LMAO nah she cooks really well actually. She's just scared to ruin the cars.
Z04, sorry to hear about the injury. On the bright side, you're still well enough to enjoy a great car like the Z!
I can relate to both sides of this age old argument. When I first started looking for a 350ZR I would not even consider an auto. At 52 yrs. old I've never owned a sports car without a manual transmission. But back in the days of my youth we're talking about MGB's/ Triumph's/Alfa's with the 4 banger engines. These cars were a blast to drive. Then came the Firebirds/Mustangs/Barracuda's with much more muscle but not near as nimble or cheap to drive. My back is a train wreck and shifting is not nearly as fun as it use to be.So for me it was a matter of comfort vs. vanity. I know all you younger guys think it will NEVER happen to you......but damn if ole father time won't creep up on you in strange ways.
So anyway I love my 07' Touring Roadster (and there are times I wish it had a stick...but not many) for what it is. And anyone who doesn't well thats their problem. One thing I sure don't miss is having my back and leg hurt as much as they do when shifting all the time!

A few years ago when the Z's first debuted (before the time of mass produced sequential shifters), most of it's japanese market competitors did not come in auto. The S2000s, EVO's, STi's they were all manual.
People "hated" when they discovered that the new sleek sportscar came in auto: especially those who couldn't obtain one, because there is something else to knock half the Z owners down a notch. It's part jealousy, but it's probably mostly resentment over, what they consider, as the dilution of an iconic Japanese sportscar.
I respect a Z owner's choice in transmission, but truthfully, I wish they solely came in manual. Not that I consider auto drivers to be less of an enthusiast, but it just narrows down the number of cars and types of Z drivers out there. (Maybe because the streets here are flooded with soccer moms driving auto Z's?)
One day I won't be able to operate a manual but I could look at other options like Caddy's, Corvettes and Benzes or an advanced sequential. For now, I can only take the Z in one flavor.
Just the honest opinion I'm entitled to.
My friend gets this all the time with his 93 TT supra with a 67 Single on it. The first question is always why didnt you get a manual. Which came from a guy with a 95 prelude and he kept going on how manuals are way better. Then the guy wanted to race so my friend got on it. We slowed back down and the guys like i guess you dont need to do a 6 speed swap and looked like this
I get a lot of crap on my youtube.com videos, but not in person. I also don't know of anyone that has dissed the auto and had the ***** to race me. 700WHP Racing 5AT versus their 6MT bolt-on Civic or Accord or 350Z = LULZ!
Yea, the wife's 07 Altima looks like **** on the outside. She vacuums and maintains the inside very well, but she said she didn't really care as long as the car runs lmao. Another reason I don't want her to drive a manual in the first place.
depending on what u wanna do with the car yeah auto may be for u...and what year..the early year z's are night and day with manual and auto..honestly i would never ever buy or wish for anyone to buy a auto z, its a sports car and to me a sports car has 3 pedals under my feet..computer shifting or not theres nothing like a manual car with power..ive driven auto and manual z's basically all years, g35's g37's etc. the newer years are an imporovement yes, and the 37's are pretty solid as well as im sure the 370 is but as far as the older year z's like i said i feel are a pretty big fail in the performance department and the fun factor not to mention being down on power compared to the manual z's
When I was shopping for cars I drove an auto Z and it was boring as hell, then later drove a 6MT and fell in love.
I don't know anyone with an auto Z, if I did I would say it to their face, I'm not afraid to tell someone they stupid for getting the wrong tranny.

I've seen many nice cars that I then found out were auto, absolutely ruins the car for me.
i remember i tried buying an automatic... 4 days later i sold it, never again. every car ive owned has been a stick. i hate autos becuase when your cruising it feels too laggy and un-responsive. i drove my moms g35 coupe (5AT) a couple times, yes it was seemless shifting which i give Nissan props for, but overall meh, still not for me.
Next time your at 7-11 ask the middle eastern guy about automatics and he'll tell you that automatics are for disabled people. honestly go ask them and they will say that (over their thats how it is) lol

Sometimes I wish I had an auto, especially when I'm in stop and go traffic - that's the worst. I just wanted to get a 6MT because I didn't know how to drive a manual and thought it would be more fun, and it is fun to shift - especially when you're on a winding road. The truth is it's all about taste and what you want - you're the one driving the car everyday and if you don't like a 6 speed, get an auto - it's more about enjoying the car than what transmission you choose. As for the auto - if you end up trading the car in or selling it - you'll get more money for it because it's an auto - so those haters can shut the hell up for all I'm concerned.
no saying that driving an auto z is having no ********* shows that you yourself are sackless. my roomate had a turbo sc400 and i bet you would say something different after taking a ride in that, it was an auto. just because its an auto doesnt make it any less of a car. you are entitled to your opinion whether auto or manual, but to bash someone else for choosing what you dont like is just plain stupid. let me ask you this, someone buys volk rims for their car and you buy enkies. now do they have no ********* cause they bought the rims you wouldnt have. or if someone buys a sc and you say they have no ********* because you would have gone turbo. everyone gets a choice at what they want to drive, and who gave you the power to tell anyone that they have no ********* for driving an auto. why dont you open your eyes to people opinions, yes its a sports car but i dont see all sports cars coming is manuals, Lambos Ferrari's ect. so why dont you just love the car you love and let other love thiers, if they didnt want an auto they wouldnt have bought it.
