Ebay Headers + More.. My Experience..
#102
i can help u out ..i got a header/test pipe combo on ebay for $177 shipped. the upper bolt holes on the headers needed some serious grinding to fit..i did that at my dad's workshop and they fit. now the test pipes caused too much rasp and i removed them and now i have header/stock cats setup..i dont have a tune on the car and i can tell u that there are some nice gains out of this headers..im telling u this because i first installed the headers with the stock cats, and then put the test pipes on and afterwards i took the test pipes off as i said above..so they are holding up pretty well, knowing that my driving is spirited and i drag sometimes..if u can deal with the grinding issue of the tight bolt holes then go ahead...but dont waste ur money on the test pipes imo

thanks. making the flange holes larger is as easy as putting a bit in a drill then pulling a trigger. more then likely i will deck the flanges too to make sure its a good, level mating surface. i will prob give then a shot. i already have hfc so i wont be getting test pipes anyway

headers are either stainless steel or ceramic. i have ceramic on mine but i believe SS ones if not wrapped throw off more heat.

i see 4 potential problems with the cheap headers:
1 flange holes too small
2 possible uneven mounting flanges
3 cracking/breaking
4 stainless giving off more heat
solutions
1 drill them to be larger
2 deck the flanges to ensure an even mounting surface
3 this is a problem, which is what i was trying to find more about when i bumped a few threads
4 either use header wrap, which will promote rust quicker, or do what i plan to and that is powder coat them with a heat trapping material. holding heat in the exhaust promotes exhaust velocity, which improves scavenging.

had my ebay headers for three years, no cracking, no hole, and no rubbing issues... Dont remember the brand but they were only like $100-$150

I have stillen headers on my HR. I paid around $700 + another $700ish to get them installed. It's the worst mod I've ever done. They're a complete waste of money and barely added any gains not to mention a ton of high end rasp which imo makes the car sound like crap. A lot of members warned me to stay from them. I should have listened.
Lesson of story - Stay away from headers. Total waste of money. Listen to forum members.
