With GT wheels once again off the car, embarked on the "summer refinish project"...
These were really rashed.... no spot repair workable. Entire 360-degrees needed work. Can't believe I actually bought and ran them like this knowing my OCDness. Hahahaha!
Above and below: Initial sanding.
Note rattle cans in background. Loves me some ghetto wheel painting.
Filler(curing). Did initial sanding this evening. Set should be primed and ready for paint tomorrow sometime.
My dilemma now is choosing a color/finish. I could just go Hypersilver/clear but I've kind of been leaning towards the charcoal/graphite like my Niz wheels, just for a different look as its always worn silver. But that's the problem... too close to the Niz wheels that I might as well take the Niz wheels and put them on the '03.... and get NEW wheels for the Niz. Hahhahahaahahahahaha.... like how I'm talking myself into that option?
"But Mic, what about your Volks? You can put those on the Niz!!"
Mic, you got my OCD is ticking now. Proper way is to fill with mig welding boogers, then grind it down smooth. Sand, sand, sand, primer, sand, paint with PPG base/clear. I had some wheels repaired a couple years back and was told to avoid places that fill with Bondo or grind the rash off making the lip thin and weak.

Yeah, no, you're right but that would be too proper. Hahaha! But ya, seriously, thought about taking them to the wheel guys here who do full restos on anything. But while I like doing it right, near $200 per wheel was out of the question, however correct. I got my two other wheel sets to run and those are clean.
If I was going for a final-final powdercoated finish, yes, I'd go metal repair to prep for the adhesion and heat curing, but these wheels are just a secondary play set.
I just wanted to try my hand at making a set of really funked up wheels clean and acceptable cosmetically. Not at all worried about reducing structural integrity because I'm not grinding wheel at all, just the surface paint and mild filler. Heck it's not even bondo, just glazing compound.
So while I get where you're coming from, this is just fixing for aesthetics; like I did for my daily wheels doing it the same Mickey Mouse way ... good enough for trips to the supermarket.
Before:
After (disregard the red filler dust that got taped over before spraying):
I'd be really ticked off if a pro shop used bondo though.

I used JB Weld on mine as it is tougher than fill. I finished them with spot putty and hi build primer.

But now I feel very sad using MICkey Mouse methodology. Heh, heh.... not.
The sun moon and stars all aligned and things worked out. Bought BACK my tomei single exhaust from person i sold it to. After purchasing my coilovers yesterday i was flat broke and had to part with other parts to obtain but it worked out. Now i wait for coilovers and new y pipe so i can enjoy.
Got my JWT clutch/flywheel installed and it feels like a new car! Stock clutch felt so light and now my left leg will be getting a little bit of a workout Clutch travel is stiff, yet buttery smooth!
Flywheel chatter is not bad at all, kind of sounds cool.

Damm it, Mic
Key.
You got me again, the wife is wondering what the hell is wrong w me.
Cheerz and Mahalo.
I gave her a good washing on Friday afternoon then had my brother install my Greddy exhaust today. It's not very loud, which is what I wanted, but draws out the sound of the Z really well. I went from the stock dual to a single Greddy. I have the piping if I ever want to go with a dual Greddy setup, but I may just give my other Greddy piping/exhaust to my brother to put on his Eclipse.
Put on a cf hood installed new air filter ordered up some ricer pins because the wifey is scared the hood is going to fly into the windshield on the highway.. O and ordered a new window motor because my window will no longer work. Good weekend.
