that will be fine, just be sure that you use the factory ears

 

Replaced the starter. OE one was 17rs. old with 144k miles. The new starter is from TYC.

 

Joined the club and finished replacing the top on the ZR. I went with the cloth Robbins/Haartz stayfast in black. Fairly easy job. Just time consuming.



I'm delaying parking it outside in the sun for the wrinkles to smooth out since the infamous NC yellow pine pollen is everywhere.

 

in the midst of fixing my driver's side door handle. the plastic that holds the knurled stud to which the piece that swivels down to push the rod into door latch broke.

Attempting to epoxy the plastic back together and shore up the area with more epoxy and wire.

I don't have much hope for my repair.






A couple of misstep in engineering .

1. The knurled stud is about 1/2 the depth of the plastic tube that it goes into. So all of the force is at to the top of the plastic tube, where there is NO fins bracing the tube.
2. they skimped on the amount of reinforcement fins used to shore up the plastic tube.

 

I have used this Plastic Stapler to help reinforce my plastic repairs. I would still worry that it might not wind up strong enough for the leverage you need on the handle piece you're fixing, though.

 

I think your repair might work in the short run, but likely fail long-term. I tried epoxying those plastic parts in the door handles before and they just broke again.

I really wish they had a better design.

 

first attempt would failed in no time...trying a better epoxy this time, see my edited post with pics.

 

I tried the steel reinforced JB weld and it worked for about a month. Instead of getting OEM replacements with the same flawed design, I got some fleabay handles. Slightly different (and improved, IMO) design. No problems since then.

Every once in a while, fleabay comes through with a win.

 

Do you happen to have access to your previous order? if so can you send me the link to the product you bought. I was going to go OEM for the replacement, but if you say the fleabay version is improved in the areas needing improvement, I am all ears (eyes too).

Ok we'll see how long the fix to the door handle lasts...

I have high confidence in the part that was broken and fixed .

I don't have any confidence on the "button" that holds the washer that holds the actuator down onto the spring. In my hurry to get it fixed I skipped using a drill press on the knurled stud to get a perfectly centered small hole that I could tap for a screw....not quite an epic fail, but a fail nonetheless.

Took car out of storage, threw a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in, and ordered a Stillen cat back exhaust. Now I get to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery.
Will be removing 19 year old clear bra once it gets warmer. Not looking forward to that.

Yes they do cost more. I liked the sound though. Was between that and an HKS.

 

i had the invidia gemini with art pipes on mine, liked the sound, but then got a hair up my butt to get the tdx2.

 

Spending on cars is a never ending cycle.

 

trust me I know... moved to a different platform, but spending didnt stop

 

The way I look at it, there are worse things to spend money on. Anyways, from what I've seen low mileage 350Zs go for lately, I can sell mine for more than double what I paid for it 3 years ago. So it's an investment. At least that's what I'll keep telling myself.
