Yeah I've seen the prices as I got tired of them and recently replaced some of my Z1 hoses with OEM.
They seep coolant through and look terrible but it seems to be a hit or miss, I'll include a pic for reference.
Just got the old diff down. Literally minutes ago. I'm taking my time with this. By that I mean I'm addressing the rear axle click issue and other tidbits. The axle splines are bone dry and coated in a layer of surface rust. Thankfully, removing them (at the wheel hubs) wasn't as bad as I thought, I had more trouble with the output shaft bolts/nuts. You may notice I also removed the rear bumper. This is to protect it from damage while removing the exhaust (and installing a new exhaust system, yes the one in the pics will be for sale), but also because I'll be replacing the rear signal lamps since someone, at some point, blacked them out with spray paint and now they look like aids. The **** stain bushing removal will commence next!
Pumpkin dropped! Axles also removed! **** stain bad! Skunk2 Exhaust (SS TD, 2.25"), axles and drive shaft.
Bushing out! Wow, that was a work out, I need to hit the gym more! The Z1 tool really works though, can't imagine doing this job without some kind of press tool. I think I'm done for the night. Everything I used to get the bushing out. Time for some cleanup.

BTW, do tell about that trans jack. Looks like it's electric or something! Fancy!
Thanks Mic! Nothing fancy, just the Harbor Freight 800lb trans jack. So far it's been great! I used it to remove the trans from my old Z and my buddy used it for his Z32. It's much easier to work with compared to the cheaper scissor style transmission jack. I like that the pump handle can swivel. My only complaint so far has been the amount of play/slop in the support plate. It does have X and Y axis tilt adjustments though, which are very useful!
Today the plan is to get the axles, axle hubs, sub-frame, and rear bumper cleaned up. Hoping to get the rear end re-assembled before the end of the day.

I had to cleanup and paint the axles (took most of the day), I just could not tolerate the rusty crusties (also some of the factory paint was already cracking from rust). After using a wire wheel on the drill and hand brush (brass), I used Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer Primer followed up with some Matte Black (almost looks Satin though). The axles will go in next weekend, until then the paint can properly cure. I wet sanded the rear diff bushing bore before the install. I also took time to clean up the axle hub splines (not pictured).

That's my problem....Iwill know it's there, and knowing will drive me nuts. Doesn't matter if no one else sees it. After cleaning up the output shafts on the Diff, I thought (in that moment) they looked "OK" and didn't bother to paint them. It's a huge time sink to mask everything for rattle can action (and that Pumpkin is not easy to move about!). But now that it's in the car and the axles are done, I think I will hand brush them and touch up some other small spots on the diff case. It shouldn't be much trouble to do under the car. I actually really like this Rust Reformer Primer. It's cures as a flat black color, so you really don't need to add additional color coats if you like it the way it is (which I do).
So many things to get done under the car still. I'll be stoked if I can at least get the trans dropped by the end of next weekend. I need to split my time between fam and work...but I'm thinking I might schedule some PTO in Oct to help speed things up.
Just to list some things left to be done (off the top of my head in no particular order)...
Install clutch & flywheel, all new clutch hydraulics, RJM clutch pedal (Rev4, I have a spare Rev3 I need to sell), recondition my Bassani SS exhaust and install, replace factory exhaust headers (this job has me a bit worried), flush coolant system, install new coolant hoses and Koyorad, replace front headlights (I got new OEM), install Motordyne MREV2 lower plenum + iso spacer, flush power steering system, install new struts + springs, get alignment done, get Uprev Tune at ZCG. That's just for mechanics/exterior. I still have a good number of minor interior items (cosmetics) I need to tackle.

I hear ya, there are just some things one knows about that if not done, will drive one crazy.
On the exhaust headers.... are you replacing the manifolds with headers or...??? As far as I recall, you don't live that far from me. Like the same smog state. Haha. I mean, even aftermarket cats and Uprev tune will fail smog. That last one is a big gotcha. Since our cars are OBD smog only (no sniffer), the new smog systems are geared to detect changes in firm/software from OE almost as soon as its plugged in.
But gotta tell ya, when I was growing up, there were days I couldn't see across the bay (I had a great view) as the haze and smog was so bad. Then, went to school in SoCal and there were days I couldn't see down the block it was so bad. Then came catalysts, electronic controls, OBD-II and stringent smog laws. I'll take the blue skies over the golden brown ones. Any day. Besides which, 287bhp in the Z or 447 wheel in the Benz is just fine for how I use my cars. So yeah, our smog laws suck. Because you still have to go back to 1975 model year cars to be exempted!! UGH. Hahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....
