got pulled over for smoked tail lights
Wanna bet? I received a warning two years ago. I asked a buddy of mine (local sheriff) and he told me after a year it drops out of the system. The reason for a warning is to give you a break, but they keep track of them incase you get caught doing the same thing. If it happens again, then you get the ticket.
Just pay if you get another ticket..Its not bad enough to get a ticket!

Fix your tail lights and move on, or pay a ticket constantly. Your choice.
How dark are they? I'm in ny dealing with state troopers(the worst), nypd(need i say more), sheriffs plus county cops and never got lit up in 3 years for my smoked tails. Yes it will always be an excuse to pull you if they want to thats why I always hated window tint also.
).......
OP dont worry about it, youll never get a ticket again... Probability is like 1 in 1billion...

Using a dark tint on your tail lights makes you harder to see. That is a danger to you and the other motorists on the road. Heaven forbid that anyone should chose safety and obeying the law over vanity.

i would consider my tails the darkest **** in the universe. had an officer mention it once to me. never hear anything about them though besides that. The above pic is a 2006 with LEDs and the braking lights are obvious. i will be honest though, my 2003s that had tinted tails were VERY hard to see during the day, you basically couldnt (it was my 2003 that the officer mentioned something)
ive NEVER ever told anyone on this forum to use the Search, but yeah search about this. there are honestly 100+ threads asking this question that have answers or links to answers in them. they will bolt in though, yes.
I had blacked out tails until I had to have the car inspected only a couple of months after having them. I went to 4 different inspection stations and was denied each time. I'm sure that each State's laws are different. However, below are the inspection criteria for Texas as they relate to tail lights.
2. Inspect for and reject if:
a. Required lamp or lamps are not present.
b. Lamp is not securely mounted to vehicle.
c. Lamp does not completely emit a red light plainly visible 1,000 feet to the rear.
d. Lamp lens is painted, missing, discolored, or does not fit properly.
e. Wiring is shoddy or electrical connections are poor.
f. Lamp is not wired so as to be lighted when head lamps or auxiliary driving lamps are lighted.
g. Lamp is obstructed by any part of the body.
h. Lamp lens is not red color.
i. Lamps are not mounted on the same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable.
j. Lamps are not mounted on rear of vehicle.
k. Lens is cracked or broken to the extent that a portion of the lens is missing and/or separated, permitting light from the bulb to emit through the crack or break.
NOTE: Lamp lenses cannot be repaired with repair tape or repair kit.
