Default 350z makes top ten Worst cars to insure

Actually #8 which isnt hard to believe just check out all the I just wrecked my Z threads. Wrx leads the list at #1. WHich is understood car manufactures started making high horsepower cars more affordable targeting the younger generation and of coarse insurance companies have to pick up the slack for all these wrecked cars. Now even with a good driving record it is becoming very costly to insure these vehicles. Notice the most popular on the list are the cars we see kids in that age bracket driving the most. Scion is #2 which every other kid has. Affordable performance cars plus inexperience and immaturity equals high rates not to mention doubling the original cars output doesnt help either. I'm all for modding but imo the car shouldnt overide one's experience level 400 whp rear wheel drive disaster is inevitable. There are idiots of all ages but time behind the wheel yields a safer driver for the most part. Believe it or not the convertible vette was in the top ten best to insure but I'm sure it has to do with the high price which makes it unattainable for certain age brackets.

19 years old + 4 years of a spotless record + 2007 350 = $1200 / year on parents insurance (who also have a spotless record)

other cars I got / had -

91 Camaro Z28 Convertible w/ built engine - $300 / year
91 Turbo Mr2 w/ bigger turbo kit - $400 / year
97 Toyota Pickup (stock) - $800 / year
85 F350 Dually w/ built 460 - maybe $150
89 Supercharged Mr2 - $300 / year
67 Mini Cooper (actually a imported 97) - $200 / year

yes the Z's insurance sucks .. but is it worth it - HELL YES

^ four years? damn you got your license at 15?
my z insurance is ridiculously good with the number of no-fault or at fault claims (ran the Z up a curb once, cadillac CTSV was broken into, and then my tahoe was totaled when my tire blew out and hit a tree). i think i pay like 720 a year, full coverage after all of this 250 deductibles all the way around.

Those costs seem unbelievably low for a 15 - 19 year old driver operating cars with performance enhancements...

Wow - every year this list comes out and the Z is always somewhere on the list. Now for the endless and pointless discussion over who pays what and why the rates are so high.

For those who don't want to read the rest of this thread, here's the Cliff Notes.

1) Everybody pays different amounts. See https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....0&postcount=36

2) Yes, careless 17 to 24 year olds are to blame.

Enjoy yourselves kids!

oops... one more reminder, something to think about. It's not the car so much as it's the driver that affects the insurance rates.

The other option is buy a G instead. I'm guess the rates are lower for it.

I think the list is pretty accurate. I paid 2.5x on my WRX than my Z.

is that under parents insurance, your own insurance, any wrecks, etc ??

I'm under my dads insurance w/ $100 a month full coverage ..

just asking b/c my manager at work said its good to get my own policy as soon as possible or the rates will be through the roof when I get my own policy later .. but then again I'm not looking for another car payment

Im 23 in NJ the worst insurance state ever and my insurance is only $80 a month full coverage on my 08 Z . I have no points and its my own insurance policy! Not mom or dads! When I add my 240sx in the nice months in only $23 additional every month til I take it off for the winter.

I have a clean record and pay almost 5k a year for the Z. NJ is the highest, dunno how you got around that Mike. Maybe I'll reg my car in PA and see if it goes down any. With how long I've owned this car, I could have gotten a whole other Z from the amount I've paid for insurance, its a sickening thought.

It gets worse, my friend has an Evo 8 with a couple speeding tickets and 1 accident that happened a few years ago, and pays 12k a year, that's unreal.

I'm curious to why people cannot discuss things on this forum. Isn't that what this is meant for?
