YES MY MECHANIC MIKE DID THE FIRST OIL CHANGE FOR ME TODAY AT 407 MILES.....
gonna do 2nd at 800 with the same 5/30 oil and at 1200 one more with REDLINE synthetic racing oil...
btw there lots of neet **** goin on under the car.
My mechanic works for our dealership at Maroone Jeep and has a 3.5 Maxima '02 so hes mor than familiar with the engine...he did scare me when he said wheres the oil filter go but he was just kidding note: you do have to take of the the plastic cover to acess easily the oil bolt and filter but its only about 10 bolts or so to remove. The dealer must have done a good pdi cause all tires were exactly the same 38 psi... im impressed with everthing about the car every mechanic in the shop came over to take a look and the head guy said man ther craftmanship it outta this world wish our cars were he said so that gave me a big smile.
oh buy the way have been trying to be good and keep it around 4000 rpms but it hard to the car says drive me but cant like have found my self wanting to go uo there only once or twice and its sweet.
untill 800 miles ill try to be kind

correct me if im wrong but ive read on many different forums that it was actually bad to change your oil before the recomended time because of tiny fragments of metal coming lose off the side of the engine.Anyways I admire you takeing care of your baby but thats a little excessive.

Nissan/Infiniti doesn't condone using synthetics as they haven't tested them with the engine.(as per Infiniti G35 Sedan). Doesn't mean they won't work. =) I'm a Royal Purple fan myself, even if it's a few months away. *sigh*
1000 mile BREAK-IN oil? I've never heard of that, is this a new thing for new cars?(never owned a new one).

What about the supposed break-in oil that's to be kept in for the first 1000 miles?

The theory (not that I'm agreeing or disagreeing with it) is that the microscopic metal shavings act to hone all the moving parts to matching dimensions, to reduce friction between them. Kind of like the way rocks in a stream get polished.
My opinion is that on a modern close tolerance motor you can do pretty much whatever you want and you'll be fine. That's why everyone says *their* method works, because they all work
You are throwing away a lot of perfectly good oil though.
A lot of oil companies are going to be hurting once oil condition indicators become more widely used.

This is an urban legend that exists in the performance motorcycle community also. Some transmissions have magnetic plugs to catch filings but engines typically don't.
The purpose of break in oil is to condition the cylinder walls to create just the right valleys for the oil to ride in. It promotes the proper type of initial wear. This is really important for a sportsbike that revs to 14,500 RPM or a car like the S2000 with it's crazy redline. Less so for a car that revs to 6k rpm.
I won't speak for any American made engines.

LS-1 Corvette/F-body engines do show marked, driver felt increase in power at around 7,000 miles. It is pretty remarkable and hard to understand if you haven't experienced it. I would guess that my car made atleast 10 more hp (noticeable feel level) after 7,000 miles.
Hopefully the Z will do the same. I will run on factory oil for around 1000 miles, change it, then go to full synthetic @ 2000 miles. That's plenty of break-in time.
Good luck with your engines!

Vette comes with Mobil 1 from the factory. All the rest is BS.
Change is every 5000 miles or every season change (hot to cold, cold to hot, etc.). Doesn't hurt to change it in the middle of summer either if you live in a hot climate.
