Default oil consumption vs. automatics?

I wouldn't base your decision on a sample of 1.

Do some more research, starting here....

If you want a MT car, then buy one. If you'd prefer an AT car then buy one of those.

Don't by an AT based on this. I have an 6speed and have No issue regarding this or tire feathering. I love my with one of the reasons it's a joy to drive is the stick.

Not certain how oil consumption is related to a transmission. How does that happen?

Every time you let off the gas to shift, the engine develops low pressure in the cylinders and intake that pulls oil past the rings and valve seals. That doesn't happen with the automatic.

This may be true to some degree assuming you have an engine that burns a lot of oil. In this case you may burn a bit more oil with a manual tranny due to the phenomenon you described. If you have a healthy engine you won't burn excessive oil regardless of the tranny type. My 03 Enthusiast with manual tranny does not burn any noticeable amount of oil between oil changes.
