Default Z is fast today in LA!

I've never driven my Z in cold weather and couldn't believe the performance difference today when I drove to work. It's like having a different car! It's sooooo much quicker at the throttle. Is there any way to keep the speed during warmer weather? I already have a cold air intake. Is anyone else in Southern CA experiencing better performance today?

I've been complaining about the car being slow. Some of you guys might remember the post I made as to why. I did finally take it for a tune at Technosquare and they re-chipped and dynoed it. The guy there said that's abut as fast as it will go without FI. It's more responsive but still not nearly as fast as my old mustang. All-in-all it's a funner car though. I just wish it would run like it did today all the time.

colder air is more dense, more air=more fuel=more power. FI+cold weather i remember my SRT-4 would boost about 2lbs more

Well, yahh.. doncha know… move to Minnesota where we are in for very cold air (delivered from Canada) for the next 2 or 3 months.

If you move here, you will have an endless supply of very cold oxygen-rich air that will "zoom the Z" until at least Match 2010.

I was watching the OBD on my computer on my way home and the air coming into the car is about 20 degrees colder tonight than yesterday. I'm averaging 52 degree in traffic and 60 standing still. The outside temp said 49.

I only got to drive it to work and home but once again, it feels soooo much quicker than normal. If I had to guess, I would say it's like 15 percent quicker. I wish I could get it somewhere that I could open it up. LA traffic sucks!

Oh... and Technosquare says it's about 255 hp to the wheels. The are said to be the Z experts. The paperwork says 240 but they said they use a different scale.

??Funner??? haha. I like that one.

Yes cold air will allow the engine to receive more atmosphere per foot3 or inch3 of air taken in due to the density. However I do not think it would sum up to 15%. Im surprised at the 2lbs on the SRT, not doubting it, just finding it interesting. I'm anticipating taking my to cold weather, we have very humid and warm here on the island. Unless i take it up to the summit of the volcano I wont see cold air.

The temperature around my way has dropped down to 35 in the morning, which is when I leave work to go home. I've also noticed a difference in the sound and the feel of my car when I'm driving. I didn't know how cold air effects cars until now. Oh the things you learn...

I owned an SRT-4 as well, the opposite was true. The SRT-4 adjusted for temperatures to keep the same power level at any temperature - so it actually boosted much more in the summer than in winter.

Most other turbo cars that do not adjust for temp would boost more in winter.

+1

Had my STI protuned in the summer months to 20.5psi. That was putting 330hp to the ground.

Winter came...DAMN did my turbo love that. I was seeing upwards of 24.5psi at times (for granted to be safe I wouldn't WOT THAT much so not to grenade my engine) and she did perfectly fine with it. Loved how my STI reacted to cold air

100-102 octane unleaded would probably do the trick. That would likely get expensive though The ECU has a range of adjustment to account for the variabilities (to keep the engine running safely and cleanly).

The car comes stock with "cold air" induction btw...at least the HR engine does. The air boxes are totally sealed from the engine bay.
